INTRODUCTION

(YOUR PARAGRAPHS HERE SHOULD BE JUSTIFIED, WITH LINE SPACING OF 2.0)

(you should first begin your paragraph of the problems covering your proposed

title’s issue/problems)

The Philippine’s is an archipelagic country which is mostly surrounded by sea.

Despite its natural positioning majority of Filipino’s do not have access to potable water.

According to Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) 12.4million Filipinos do

not have access to potable water. Water service providers (WSPs) themselves have the

burden of providing water and about half are very small and unregulated or is unable to

adopt to new standards. The proposed title could provide potable water for the targeted

community who are mostly deprived of the most essential necessity, water.

There are certain problems in communities, such as, open defecation. Many low-

income households rely on unsanitary toilets. This poses a problem because it is

untreated and ends up contaminating ground water – the water then gets pumped from

wells, this poses a serious health and sanitary problem.

Waterborne diseases pose serious health problems that are common for

communities such as Indigenous People (IP) where often they drink unfiltered,

untreated water. Diseases can lead to disorders related to nutritional deficiencies.

The proposed water filtration prototype will collect rain water and store it in a

drum. Upon collection it will have already filtered large debris that have been brought by

wind and pumps it towards the water filtration device that will then store it in another

container that can then be used to drink. The proposed prototype will be solar powered
hence there won’t be a need for utility electricity, the harnessed power will be stored in a

battery that will run the filtration system, hence, even during night it will still function but

for a limited time, may vary depending on the capacity of battery.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

(this part should cover how the IPs get their source of water, what are the

challenges they face when collecting water, what are the common water related

problems they face, add documentation of when you go there such as pictures)

This should be about 2 pages long

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

(this section should identify the key questions in which you are setting your goal

towards achieving)

Water as it may seem trivial, is somewhat becoming scarce and the need to pay

for potable water has put burdens in many Filipinos especially our primary beneficiary

the IPs of Zambales. The proponents came up with the following questions:

1. Can the prototype function fully with just solar power and without the need for

utility electricity?

2. Will the prototype address the need of potable water for the IPs?

3. Is the prototype low cost and efficient?

4. Will the filtered water pass the 3 types of water quality test?

a. Physical test:
i. Color – which may be caused by presence of minerals, water is

naturally clear.

ii.Odor and taste – often associated with presence of living

microscopic organism.

b. Chemical test:

i. pH- measure of hydrogen concentration. Used to indicate the

acidity or alkalinity of water.

ii.BOD – high BOD would indicate there is less oxygen to support

life and indicates organic pollution.

c. Bacteriological test:

i. Test given samples for contamination or bacteria. A routine

bacteriological exam will be interpreted in light of source,

treatment process, and distribution.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

The general objective of this thesis is to design and develop using our skills and

knowledge into creating a sustainable, cost efficient, and potable water for our target

beneficiary which is the IP community of Zambales.

Specifically, this thesis seeks to do the following:

1. (identify your target goals)
