Management Functions:
Top managers: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chief Operating (COO), Chief Financial Officer
(CFO), Chief Information Officer (CIO). They have 3 major responsibilities: Create context for change,
Develop Employees, Create a positive organizational culture through language and action.
Middle managers: Plant managers, regional managers, or divisional managers. They are responsible for
setting objectives consistent with top management’s goals and for planning and implementing subsequent
strategies for achieving those achievements.
First-line managers: Office Managers, Shift Supervisor, and Department Managers. Their responsibility
is to manage the performance of entry-level employees.

Management Practices:
Employment Security- the ultimate form of commitment companies can make to their workers
Selective Hiring – This is one of the most important in choosing and making the company
successful in its goals
Self-Manage teams and decentralization – Responsible for their own hiring, purchasing, job
assignments, and production.
High Wages Contingent on Organizational Performance – Needed to attract and retain talented
workers.
Training and Skills Development – A company must invest in the training and skill development
of its people.

Manager Mistakes:
These are the following mistakes of managers:
1. Insensitive to others
2. Cold, aloof, arrogant
3. Betrays trust
4. Overly ambitious
5. Specific performance problems
6. Unable to delegate or build a team
7. Unable to staff effectively
8. Unable to think strategically
9. Unable to adapt to boss with different style
10. Overdependent on advocate or mentor

Good management is a very important thing in a manager or employee. Companies must choose their
employees properly so that the management would be smooth

Scientific Management thoroughly studies and tests different work methods to identify the best, most
efficient way to complete a job. Frederick W. Taylor, the father of scientific management, began his
career as a worker.

Motion Study is breaking each task into its separate motions and then eliminating those that are
unnecessary or repetitive.
Gantt Charts:
Gantt Charts were revolutionary in the era of seat-of-the-pants management because of the detailed
planning information they provided.
