Does reading this chapter make you less likely to buy leather and fur products, or

not? Why or why not?

I have always had an internal debate for what is morally right or wrong when it comes to
animal rights such as, is it okay to eat their meat and use them for other purposes such
as laboratory testing or making clothes out of there hides, but then I decided to come
to a few conclusions.

When it comes to this question, I am likely to continue buying the leather and fur
products of these animals because I believe that as the world is evolving so are the laws
governing our lives for example Jimenez et al,(2016) mentions humane farming where
animals are being taken care of with great consideration and less cruelty. So I have a
belief that most companies are catching on to this trend and supporting this therefore I
feel more comfortable in continuously buying the products as a way of supporting
them.

Does reading this chapter make you more likely to go vegetarian in your food
consumption (if you are not already), or not? Why or why not?

The answer is no and this is because I have a strong belief that meat is needed in
anyone's diet to properly provide nutrients for the body in order to develop. That, plus I
cannot live without eating meat simply because I come from an African society with a
long line of hunting so meat is among my staple foods.

Do you feel that the consumption of meat and the use of leather and fur are
“natural” and therefore acceptable? Why or why not?
I think that man is meant to eat meat although he can survive on other means which
seems natural to me. I further think that if we handle animals well, we can make it mildly
acceptable to everyone.

On the other hand, I do not think that the use of leather and fur is natural or entirely
acceptable especially if they are got from animals that are not going to serve multiple
purposes,  like animals in the wild that are not got grown for that purpose.

I further think that sensitization is needed about where to get such products and the
alternative of vegan options such as fake leather does not sound bad.

Does an “ethical” company owe any duty to animals, or are ethical duties only
owed to humans?

I think an ethical company owes duty to both animals and humans especially those
companies that use animals in a lot of their production for example pharmaceutical
companies, clothing companies among others because it is the moral and ethical thing
to do.
