OceanStor 5500 V5, 5600 V5, and 5800 V5

You can either create a loop or use the existing loop to expand a disk enclosure. You are advised to
create a loop for the expansion.

NOTICE:

The number of disk enclosures in all expansion modes cannot exceed the specifications. Otherwise,

new disks cannot be added to the storage system.

High-density disk enclosures are deployed in dual-uplink networking.

All cascading cables are connected in forward mode. For details, see Connecting High-Density Disk

Enclosures to 2 U Controller Enclosures.

You can obtain more network diagrams from Huawei Storage Product Networking Assistant

Ports and Slots for Cascading Disk Enclosures

You can cascade high-density disk enclosures to onboard SAS ports or install SAS expansion modules in

slots IOM 3, IOM 4, and IOM 5 to connect to disk enclosures, as shown in the yellow area in the figure.

The priorities of the slots for installing expansion modules are as follows: IOM 5 > IOM 4 > IOM 3.

Expanding Capacity in a New Loop

The following example describes how to add a disk enclosure using the remaining idle expansion ports.

Expanding Capacity in Existing Loops

If the controller enclosure has no available expansion ports, and the number of disk enclosures in each

loop does not surpass the specification limits, you can expand capacity by adding disk enclosures to the
