2 If you don’t know an answer to a question, never / always leave it blank.

• Read the instructions carefully before listening.
• Look at all the pictures attentively OR read the answers
carefully before playing the audio track. You can listen
twice.
• Listen for the first time and choose the correct option.

During the listening test – Extended listening
Candidates listen to a longer recording and answer a series of multiple-choice questions based on it.
The questions are in the same order as the information they hear in the recording.

• Read the instructions and the answers carefully before


listening.
• Look out for key words in questions and options
• Don’t freeze up if you miss some information.
• Try to grasp what differentiates one answer from the
others.
• Listen for the first time and choose the correct option.
• Listen again and check your answer.
• Be mindful of distractors. Key words of each
alternative may be mentioned in the audio.
Attention!
Hearing a word in the alternative doesn’t mean this
is the correct one. You need to focus on the detail of
the extract
Reading test
Reading – Read and select
Candidates read a notice, label, memo or letter containing a short text and choose the sentence or
phrase that most closely matches the meaning of the text. There are three possible answers.

• Quickly read the text to understand the overall


meaning
• Identify the pieces of information in the text
• Carefully read through the options
• Eliminate the ones you’re sure do not sumarize the text
• Pay close attention to the option you chose and check
if it covers all pieces of information in the text
Reading – Gapped sentences
Candidates read a sentence with a missing word (gap) and choose the correct word to fill the gap.
There are three or four choices for each gap.

• Read the entire sentence to understand the overall meaning


• Check if you can identify the answer even before seeing the options
• Choose the option which best collocates with another word in the
sentence
• If unsure, decide which options are clearly wrong
• Before submitting, read the sentence to make sure it sounds correct

Reading – Multiple-choice gap-fill
Candidates choose the right word or phrase to fill the gaps in a text. There are three or four choices
for each gap.
