A Reflection on The Youtube Channel SoulPancake on the topic Science of Happiness:

An Experiment on Gratitude

Sem. Jan Edriel B. Alfonso

The video showed how people were forced to tell the persons they thanked the most. By

writing them a letter and reading it out loud on the telephone. The persons who were part of the

experiment were much happier when they told their loved one vocally instead of writing it down.

Personally I like expressing ourselves in writing because it is much is easier but talking about our

feelings is way more effective than writing them a letter and we can see the results of our

expressed emotions faster than writing them a letter. Talking about our feelings is hard but the

result is great. Saying thank you to someone is especially to our loved ones is much better if

done personal or orally because for me it takes great courage to conquer our fear of getting shun

away. Sometimes we might think of things that are to negative like their reaction after we tell

them our feelings. We must first learn how to conquer that fear and especially that fear. I

experience this all time I find it hard to express my feelings to my loved one because of the fear

that is in my head but when I had enough courage to tell them my feelings or to tell them my

gratitude to them. The feeling of success is quite satisfactory. The video taught me that to do not

waste time on just being quiet and not telling them anything. If we are given the chance to talk

about how grateful we are. We should take that chance and tell it to our love ones before time

runs out. Remember we only live once. We only have one lifetime to spend with them.
