ICONnect: Finding the Right People for Your Startup

Last October 11, 2022, we attended a webinar entitled " Finding the Right People
for your Startup" by Mr. Marrione Pol Camacho. He is the head of Business
Development at Embiggen. This topic can really help a student like me to know how to
find the right people to build a strong and efficient team, especially for academic group
activities. The seminar that happened is also applicable for those people who are
looking for partners or companions that really want to establish a company or business.
I learned a lot of things and including: Finding the right co-founders, Building roadmaps,
Building a Great Team, How to find them, and The sparke-type test.
In finding the right co-founder, I learned that you need to question yourself first
before searching for them. Ask Yourself what you are good at and what you are not
good at. It will help you to find the right people to be with you in building projects,
companies, or businesses. The two of you can share your knowledge and distribute the
job that you can and he/she can do. The effective way to find a co-founder is to make
strengths effective. It is about what a man can do and not about what a job requires.
Productivity, Support, and Paramount to success are the other ways to find the right co-
founder.
Finding the right people is through building roadmaps, the question we need to
answer in this is what are your goals? Goals are very important when you want to start
something new. I learned that you will find the right people if at the very beginning you
have your goals why? Because you will hire people based on need and given limited
resources to achieve your goals.
In this session, I discovered ways how to build a great team. First, from the start,
establish expectations for the outcome of the project. Second, respect each team
member for who they are so that they will feel comfortable with the team. Third,
strengthen relationships within the team and make sure no one will be left behind.
Fourth, Emotional Intelligence training is recommended because if you are trained you
can manage every situation that happens in your team. Fifth, Encourage others with
optimism. Sixth, Communicate with each other and talk about each other's ideas.
Seventh, give them rewards for every accomplishment. Lastly, the most important way
to build a strong team is to find a team you can trust.
As a participant, I knew how to find the right people. In order to find the right
people, start with the people around you or the people you trusted the most. If there is
no one who wants to engage, try to find or connect to people with the same values as
you. People with the same goals as yours to obtain the successful startup you wish for.
The topic I think I struggled with most and need strengthening is the Sparke Test type.

In conclusion, when you are trying to build or find a team you always need to
identify what are the things you can and cannot do, second, what goals you have to
build roadmaps, third, identify what are the gaps, and then start looking for the right
people. Seek those who can support you rather than those who will abuse you.
