Ballad Lick #3 is very technically simple, yet quite a melodically sophisticated sequence that
you might have heard from players like John Petrucci. The idea is to pick any note of the
scale, play up one diatonic step, then go up a fifth. In this example I just take this concept
through a few steps and then round it off with a small melodic fragment. When you practice
tho, make sure you practice this pattern starting on any note of the scale. If you have that
down, this sequence will slowly make it’s way into your improvisational vocabulary.
