What is a Process?

• A series of actions which are


carried out in order to
achieve a particular result
• A set activities that interact
to produce a result
• A series of actions or steps
taken in order to achieve a
particular end

What is a Process Description?
• A precise portrayal of events occurring
over time that lead to some outcome
• It is written to provide the reader with
background information on how a
process is or was accomplished.
• It describes the steps in the operation
of a mechanism or the steps in a
conceptual process.

• It focuses on the mechanism’s function and how the parts
work together rather than the physical attributes of the
mechanism.

Writing the Process Description
➢ Introduction
The introduction to a process description contains general
information that prepares the reader for the specific details that
will follow. In the introduction, you define the process, explain its
principles of operation (if necessary), and preview the major
sequences.
