OVERVIEW 1

1. OVERVIEW
EZ-LiteTM is a simple-to-use, yet advanced image capturing, storing, and printing software
used with the Topcon Digital Slit Lamp DC-1 and DC-3, and Topcon Retinal Camera
TRC-NW8.

EZ-LiteTM software runs in Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows 7 Operating
Systems. It is also supported to run in Windows 7 Spanish OS.

 Please read this User Manual with care before using this software.
 TOPCON Medical Systems, Inc. has the copyright for the software.
See Section 5 (EZ-LITETM SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS) of this manual.
 Reproduction and copying of the software and the User Manual, in whole or in
part, without permission is strictly prohibited.
 This User Manual does not describe details about handling procedures of personal
computer and the operation procedures of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
This User Manual is made on an assumption that the user already has knowledge
about the personal computer and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
 Topcon Medical Systems, Inc. is not responsible for the effects as a result of using
the user manual and software.
 Specifications of the software and descriptions in the User Manual are subject to

2. INSTALLING EZ-LITETM SOFTWARE


Installing EZ-LiteTM software consists of two steps:

 Install EZ-LiteTM software components.


 Install USB drivers for the DC-1 or DC-3 or NW8+D90.

2.1. Installing EZ-LiteTM Software

1. Place the EZ-LiteTM Software CD into CD-ROM drive.


2. Use Windows Explorer to locate and run setup.exe.
The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for EZ-Lite dialog box displays.

3. Click Next.
The Setup options dialog box displays.

4. Select NW8+D90 or DC-3 or DC-1, and click Next.


IMAGEnet EZ-Lite will begin installation.

5. (ONLY if DC-3 or DC-1 was selected) – For NW8+D90, skip to Step #9.
The Ligos Indeo Codecs Setup dialog box displays.

6. Click Next.
The License Agreement dialog box displays.

7. Click Yes.
The Setup Status dialog box displays and Installation process takes place.
When completed, the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box displays.

8. Click Finish to display Installation Complete window.

9. Click Close to exit.

NOTE: For DC-1/DC-3 on Windows XP Only.
1. Connect the USB cable to the computer.
2. Place the EZ-LiteTM CD into the CD-ROM drive.
3. Turn on the capture device (DC-1 or DC-3).
If the capture device is set to connect to PC, the computer will detect the device
and the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box displays.

4. Select the Install from a list or specific location option button and then click
Next.
The Choose Search and Installation Options dialog box displays.

Select the Don’t search, I will choose the driver to install option button, and
click Next.
The Select Device Driver dialog box displays.

5. Click Have Disk.


The Locate File dialog box displays.

6. Locate the Driver folder on the CD-ROM. Select the dc3.inf file, and then click
Open.
The Hardware Installation dialog box displays.

7. Click Continue Anyway.


The Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box displays.

8. Click Finish to complete the installation process.

NOTE: For DC-1/DC-3 on Windows 7 Only.


1. Connect the USB cable to the computer.
2. Place the EZ-LiteTM CD into the CD-ROM drive.
3. Turn on the capture device (DC-1 or DC-3).
If the capture device is set to connect to PC, the computer will detect the device
and will attempt to find and install the driver software.

4. If unsuccessful, the Installing device driver software message will change to show
that system is unable to find driver at the end.

5. Go to Device Manager and Right-click on Unknown device.

6. Select the Update Driver Software option from the drop-down menu.
The How-do-you-want-to-search-for-driver-software dialog box displays.

7. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option button.


The Browse-for-driver-software-on-your-computer dialog box displays.

8. Click Browse.
The Browse-For-Folder dialog box displays.

9. Select driver folder (eg. DC3-Driver), and click OK.


The Browse-For-Folder dialog box now closes, and returns to Browse-for-driver-
software-on-your-computer dialog box.

10. Click Next.


The Windows Security dialog box may display.

11. Select Install this driver software anyway.


Installation of driver software now begins.
Once completed, “Windows has successfully updated your software” message will
display.

NOTE: For TRC-NW8 on Windows 7 Only.


1. Connect the USB cable to the computer.
2. Place the EZ-LiteTM CD into the CD-ROM drive.
3. Turn on the capture device (TRC-NW8).
If the capture device is set to connect to PC, the computer will detect the device
and will attempt to find and install the driver software.

4. If unsuccessful, the Installing device driver software message will change to show
that system is unable to find driver at the end.

5. Go to Device Manager and Right-click on Unknown device. Select the Update


Driver Software option from the drop-down menu.
The How-do-you-want-to-search-for-driver-software dialog box displays.

7. On displayed Browse-for-driver-software-on-your-computer window, Click on


Browse, and select the folder containing the trcnw8.sys driver files.
(Typically located in C:\Topcon_Backup\IMAGEnet R4\Capture\NW8\Driver\TRC-NW8)

8. Click Next.
The Windows Security dialog box may display.

3.1. Starting EZ-Lite TM Software

An EZ-LiteTM icon is created on the desktop upon software installation. Double-click


the icon to launch EZ-LiteTM.

Once EZ-LiteTM is started, you may access EZ-LiteTM functions through menu bar and/or
tool bar.

Image Window

The image window of EZ-LiteTM, in both the capture and the viewing modes, is a
combination of two sub-windows. On the left, all images that are associated with this
particular patient are shown in thumbnail format. Any individual image is shown on the
right hand side when its thumbnail is highlighted and consequently zooming and
enhancing functions can be applied. The user may drag the divider between these two
sub-windows to show the thumbnail images in multiple columns.

3.2. Capturing Images

3.2.1. Capturing Images using DC-3 / DC-1

Capturing images in EZ-LiteTM for Slit Lamp with DC-3 usually requires the following
steps.

1. Select a Capture Procedure.


Choose the desired capture procedure from the Capture menu (Still, Movie,
Multi).

2. Register or Select a Patient. To capture images for a new patient whose


information is not registered, fill the patient information fields in the dialog box.
The ID Code and patient Last Name fields have to be entered. Other information
fields may be left blank. After entering the necessary information fields, click OK
to start capturing.

Note: To capture images for a patient whose information is already registered in the
database, click Select Patient. The Select Patient dialog box displays to select a
patient from the patient list. Click OK to begin capturing.

3. Start Capturing Using a Capture Device.


To capture an image, use the trigger button of the slit lamp (DC-1 or DC-3).
To capture a movie, press the trigger button of the slit lamp (DC-1 or DC-3) to
start recording, and press the second time to stop recording.

When process completed, an image/movie is captured and displayed on the right


main window, and a miniature thumbnail image is then added on the left sub-
window.

You may zoom in/zoom out, enhance, delete, and print any images during the
capture process. The operation is the same as movie mode.

4. Capture Settings.
Live Window and Interface Settings box will be displayed during Capture
procedure. Some of the settings include variables in Sharpness (-4 to +4),
Contrast (-4 to +4), Sensitivity (200, 400), and White Balance (Auto, Halogen,
Xenon, Custom). To modify any of these settings, select the drop-down menus or
button on the Interface dialog box, update their values and click Save.

5. Save Images or Movies.


To save captured images or recorded movies, select File, Save from the menu bar,
or click the save icon on the tool bar. All the images captured will be saved in jpeg
format (or movies will be saved in .avi format), and the capture procedure will be
closed automatically.

3.2.2. Capturing Images using TRC-NW8

Capturing images in EZ-LiteTM for Retinal Camera NW8 usually requires the following
steps.

1. Select a Capture Procedure.


Choose the desired capture procedure from the Capture menu (Color, Redfree).

2. Register or Select a Patient. To capture images for a new patient whose


information is not registered, fill the patient information fields in the dialog box.
The ID Code and patient Last Name fields have to be entered. Other information
fields may be left blank. After entering the necessary information fields, click OK
to start capturing.

Note: To capture images for a patient whose information is already registered in the
database, click Select Patient. The Select Patient dialog box displays to select a
patient from the patient list. Click OK to begin capturing.

3. Start Capturing Using a Capture Device.

When process completed, an image is captured and displayed on the right main
window, and a miniature thumbnail image is then added on the left sub-window.

You may zoom in/zoom out, enhance, delete, and print any images during the
capture process.

4. Capture Settings.
No Capture Settings are needed. They are already pre-configured and provided in
NW8 Camera Settings.

5. Save Images.
To save captured images or recorded movies, select File, Save from the menu bar,
or click the save icon on the tool bar. All the images captured will be saved in jpeg
format, and the capture procedure will be closed automatically.

3.3. Viewing Images

3.3.1. Viewing Images (for DC-3 / DC-1)

1. To open and view images saved in the database, select File, Open on the menu
bar, or click the Open icon on the tool bar.
The Select Patient dialog box displays.

You may click on the Attribute title button (ID., Name, Sex, Birth Date, Last Visit)
to sort the patient list. Double-click on the patient, or highlight the patient and then
click OK to open an image window for this patient.

Note: Once the image window is open, you can zoom in, enhance, delete, compare,
and print images.

2. Zoom In/Zoom Out


To zoom in/zoom out of an image, select Tools, Zoom on the menu bar, or click
the Zoom on the tool bar. Left mouse click on the image allows you to zoom in,
and right mouse click allows you to zoom out.

3. Delete an Image
To delete an image, click the Delete icon on the tool bar, or simply use the Delete
key on the keyboard. You may highlight multiple thumbnail images (using Ctrl
key) and delete all.

Note: If you delete all images belonging to a particular patient, the image window will
automatically close and the patient will then be removed from the patient list. After
confirmation, deleted images cannot be recovered.

4. Enhance an Image
To enhance the contrast of an image, select Tools, Adjust Contrast on the menu
bar, or click the Adjust Contrast icon on the tool bar. The adjustment window
displays to allow similar photo shop-type functions. Use the slide bar to adjust the
contrast, or change the shape of color lookup curve by adding/deleting deflection
points on the lookup curve. To add a deflection point, simply drag the curve to the
desired location; to delete a deflection point, double click on the existing point.
You may also choose to adjust the contrast of RGB channels separately using the
drop-down box, or adjust all channels at the same time.

Click OK to accept the modified image. Any enhanced images will display an “M”
label on the left-upper corner as a distinction from the original.

5. Compare Images
You may show multiple images (up to 4) on screen for comparison purpose.
Highlight multiple thumbnail images (using Ctrl key), and click the Compare icon
on the tool bar.

Note: This function is unavailable in capture mode, and the composite image cannot
be saved.

3.3.2. Viewing Images (for NW8)

1. To open and view images saved in the database, select File, Open on the menu bar,
or click the Open icon on the tool bar.
The Select Patient dialog box displays.

You may click on the Attribute title button (ID., Name, Sex, Birth Date, Last Visit)
to sort the patient list. Double-click on the patient, or highlight the patient and then
click OK to open an image window for this patient.

2. Zoom In/Zoom Out


To zoom in/zoom out of an image, select Tools, Zoom on the menu bar, or click
the Zoom on the tool bar. Left mouse click on the image allows you to zoom in,
and right mouse click allows you to zoom out.

3. Delete an Image
To delete an image, click the Delete icon on the tool bar, or simply use the Delete
key on the keyboard. You may highlight multiple thumbnail images (using Ctrl
key) and delete all.

Note: If you delete all images belonging to a particular patient, the image window will
automatically close and the patient will then be removed from the patient list. After
confirmation, deleted images cannot be recovered.

4. Enhance an Image

5. Compare Images
You may show multiple images (up to 4) on screen for comparison purpose.
Highlight multiple thumbnail images (using Ctrl key), and click the Compare icon
on the tool bar.

Note: This function is unavailable in capture mode, and the composite image cannot

3.4. Printing Images

1. To print images, highlight single or multiple images (using Ctrl key), and then
select File, Print on the menu bar, or click the Print icon on the tool bar.
The Print window displays.
2. Click Print to complete the printing process.

Note: You may highlight up to 6 images to print in a single sheet.

3.5. Options

The Options dialog box offers an easy way to add your practice information to the
printout and to network multiple review computers across the local area network
(LAN).

1. Select Tools, Options from the menu bar.


The Options dialog box displays. (Options box shown is for DC-3)

2. To change capture libraries settings, double-click on the desired capture library


name and make changes as desired in the open window.

3. To modify the name, address and logo image of your practice, enter or select the
corresponding attributes, and then click OK.
These changes display in the Print window.

Note: You may share the same database and images across the local area network
(LAN). Simply modify the database directory path in the Options dialog box to point
to the folder where database and images reside.

3.6. Viewing RGB Channels


RGB Channels allow the user to adjust each color channel to enhance image quality.

1. Move the slider bar for each color channel to adjust the image quality.

2. Click the Close icon when finished.


An image update dialog box displays.

3. If you wish to save the adjusted image, click Yes. If you wish to return to the
original image, click No.

To play a movie, click the movie thumbnail you wish to view on the left portion of the
screen. Windows Media Player will automatically start up, and display movie
progress.

Note: Use Media Player menu bar to play, pause, stop, fast-forward, change volume,
return.

4. UPGRADE TO IMAGENETTM PRODUCTS


You are encouraged to upgrade to IMAGEnet R4 should you need more functions to
complement your clinical practice. EZ-LiteTM is designed to make this transition smooth.
Simply copy all the images collected to a DATAFILE drive configured in IMAGEnet R4,
and all the images will be online immediately.

5. EZ-LITETM SOFTWARE LICENSE TERMS

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING “LICENSE TERMS” CAREFULLY BEFORE USING OR


INSTALLING THIS SOFTWARE!

ANY AND ALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE “LICENSE TERMS” SHALL BE DEEMED TO
BE ACCEPTED AND AGREED BY YOU IF YOU USE OR INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE.

The EZ-Lite™ software, including its instruction manual and other documents, contained in this package comprises
copyrightable works of TOPCON CORPORATION protected by copyright laws and is licensed, not sold.. TOPCON
CORPORATION grants to you the right to use this EZ-Lite™ software under the terms and conditions outlined below.

LICENSE TERMS

1. LICENSE
Subject to the terms and conditions outlined in these LICENSE TERMS, TOPCON CORPORATION
(“TOPCON”) hereby grants to you (“USER”) a non-exclusive and non-transferable license to use the EZ-Lite™
Software including its instruction manual and other documents contained in this package or later provided
(separately or collectively the “SOFTWARE”) only on:
(1) (a) a stand-alone-type single computer, or
(b) a single work station that is connected with a computer network(s), and in which this
SOFTWARE is or will be installed; or
(2) work stations, in each of which the SOFTWARE is or will be installed, and the number of which is limited
to that of the original copies of the SOFTWARE contained in this package corresponding to the number of
users to be allowed to use it under these LICENSE TERMS when this package is so supplied as the “multi-
user” type for a computer network.

Note: If the USER desires to install the SOFTWARE into a network server of the computer network,
USER shall additionally purchase the package containing the SOFTWARE for said network server.

The said stand-alone-type single computer and work stations mentioned in (1) (a), (b) and (2) of this Section 1,
respectively, are hereinafter separately or collectively referred to as the “COMPUTER.”

2. RESTRICTION
2.1 USER shall NOT:
(1) use the SOFTWARE on or with
(a) any computer or machine other than the COMPUTER, or
(b) more than one COMPUTER at a time, or
(c) any computer network under non-compliance with the provisions set out in Section 1(2) above; or
(2) make any copy of the SOFTWARE, except for installing of the SOFTWARE into the COMPUTER’s
internal or external hard disk drive; or
(3) sell, assign, exchange, pass, rent, lease or otherwise dispose of the SOFTWARE, or assign or sub-license
any right to use the SOFTWARE to anyone else (with any such assignment or transfer being void); or
(4) adapt, modify or alter the SOFTWARE, or merge any program with the SOFTWARE, or make any
derivative from the SOFTWARE; or
(5) remove, erase or make unclear any copyright notice of the SOFTWARE; or
(6) analyze or make reverse-engineering to, the SOFTWARE by decompiling or disassembling it.

2.2 In any event that USER exchanges, or sells, assigns, passes, rents, leases or otherwise disposes of to any third
party or scraps the COMPUTER or any of its internal or external hard disk drive or other memory means in which
the SOFTWARE has been installed, USER shall destroy or erase any and all of the said installed SOFTWARE
prior to said exchange.

3. EXCHANGING OF MEMORY MEAN, ETC.


3.1 If USER desires to exchange, extend, divide or reformat the COMPUTER’s internal or external hard disk drive or
other memory means in which the SOFTWARE has been installed. USER shall so notify TOPCON in writing
directly or through its subsidiary, affiliate, distributor or agent prior to said reformat, etc. TOPCON will instruct,
if necessary, USER to return the original copy of the SOFTWARE contained in this package and re-install the
same when TOPCON has received said notice from USER.
3.2 IN NO EVENT SHALL TOPCON OR ITS SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, DISTRIBUTORS OR
AGENTS BE RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR LOSSES ARISING OUT OF,
RESULTING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH ANY OF THE ACTS MENTIONED ABOVE IF
IT IS DONE BY USER WITHOUT SAID NOTICE, OR IN NON-COMPLIANCE WITH ANY
INSTRUCTION FROM TOPCON.

4. COPYRIGHT
The SOFTWARE is the exclusive property of TOPCON, and all rights to the SOFTWARE and any copies,
modifications, alterations or derivative works thereof, and title to any existing or future patents, copyrights, trade
secrets, trademarks and other proprietary rights embodied therein remains exclusively with TOPCON. USER
acknowledges that there is no transfer of title or ownership of the SOFTWARE from TOPCON.

5. TERM
These LICENSE TERMS shall commence on the date when the SOFTWARE is first used or installed by USER,
and shall remain in full force until the termination hereof pursuant to the provisions set out in Section 6.1 below.

6. TERMINATION
These LICENSE TERMS shall be forthwith terminated if:
6.1 (1) USER decides to cease use of the SOFTWARE (in this event, USER shall, without delay, notify TOPCON in
writing of such decision ); or
(2) USER fails to comply with any term or condition of these LICENSE TERMS.
6.2 Upon any termination of these LICENSE TERMS, USER shall immediately cease to use the SOFTWARE in any
manner, and shall promptly, at USER’s expense, return to TOPCON directly or through its subsidiary, affiliate,
distributor or agent, or destroy at TOPCON’s option, the SOFTWARE and any and all copies thereof (if any).
USER shall notify TOPCON in writing of this together with a written certification of its completion or
destruction if the destruction is requested by TOPCON. Any memory paid by USER shall not be refunded after
use or installation by USER of the SOFTWARE for any reason whatsoever including any termination of these
LICENSE TERMS.
6.3 Any and all provisions set out in Sections 2.2, 3.2, 4, 6.2 and 7 through 10 shall survive any termination of these
LICENSE TERMS.

7. LIMITED WARRANTY
7.1 In the event that a hidden material defect is found by USER, USER shall notify TOPCON in writing of such
defect directly or through TOPCON’s subsidiary, affiliate, distributor or agent within ninety (90) days after USER
has received the SOFTWARE. TOPCON shall, at its sole discretion, elect to either repair such defect, or exchange
with new software, with no charge to USER, subject to the condition that TOPCON has confirmed the existence
of such defect which is attributable to TOPCON and has judged that such defect is material.

TOPCON shall not be liable for any and all obligations under this Section 7.1 if
(1) the hidden defect is not notified within said ninety (90)-day period, or

(2) any defect has arisen out of, resulted from or in connection with any abuse, misuse, accident, neglect
or unauthorized use or repair, or any other improper use, etc. which is not attributable to TOPCON.
7.2 THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY
KIND. TOPCON FURTHER DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT
LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A
PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE EXPRESSLY
PROVIDED HEREIN.
THE ENTIRE RISK ARISING OUT OF, RESULTING FROM OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE
USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE REMAINS WITH THE USER. IN NO EVENT
SHALL TOPCON OR ITS SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, DISTRIBUTORS OR AGENTS BE
LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL, DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL,
PUNITIVE, OR OTHER DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION,
DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, LOSS OF
MEDICAL, CLINICAL OR BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS, OR
PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE) ARISING OUT OF, RESULTING FROM OR IN
CONNECTION WITH THESE LICENSE TERMS OR THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE
SOFTWARE.

8. COMPLIANCE WITH EXPORT CONTROL LAWS


Any and all exports or re-exports of the SOFTWARE are subject to Japanese Exchange and Foreign Trade Law and
other Japanese-related laws and regulations, and/or the United States Export Administration Act, its implementing
regulations as well as other U.S. export laws and regulations. Export or re-export of the SOFTWARE in a manner
contrary to either Japanese or U.S. law or regulation is strictly prohibited.

USER shall not export nor re-export to any country the SOFTWARE or any part or copy thereof without first
obtaining all required authorization from the Japanese or United States government.

In addition, with respect to export and re-export of the SOFTWARE, USER shall observe and comply with any
other applicable export laws and regulations of any other countries and shall not export nor re-export to any
country the SOFTWARE or any part or copy thereof in a manner contrary to any other applicable export laws and
regulations of any other countries.

TOPCON OR ITS SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, DISTRIBUTORS AND AGENTS SHALL NOT


BE RESPONSIBLE NOR LIABLE TO USER FOR ANY LIABILITY, LOSS, DAMAGE,
PUNISHMENT, OR PENALTY ARISING OUT OF OR RESULTING FROM USER’S VIOLATION
OF OR NON-COMPLIANCE WITH ANY JAPANESE, U.S. OR OTHER APPLICABLE
COUNTRY’S EXPORT CONTROL LAWS OR REGULATIONS.
9. CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION.
USER acknowledges and agrees that the SOFTWARE (for the purposes of this paragraph, the “Confidential
Information”) constitutes a valuable proprietary product and trade secret of TOPCON embodying substantial creative
efforts and confidential information, ideas, and expressions. USER will take all necessary steps to protect the
confidentiality of the Confidential Information and other information designated by TOPCON as confidential. Such
steps include, but are not limited to, agreeing not to sell, transfer, publish, disclose, display or distribute the
Confidential Information or permit any competitor or potential competitor of TOPCON access to, in any manner, the
Confidential Information or copies thereof, or any part thereof, in any form whatsoever. USER's employees, agents,
independent contractors and guests are prohibited from taking any action otherwise prohibited to USER, and USER
will notify TOPCON promptly and in writing of any violation of this paragraph 9. If USER violates, or threatens to
violate, any of its agreements in this paragraph 9, USER agrees that monetary damages alone shall not be adequate

and that TOPCON shall be entitled to a temporary or permanent injunction or any other appropriate decree of specific
performance or equitable relief (without being required to post any bond or other security) from a court of competent
jurisdiction in order to prevent, prohibit or restrain any such breach or violation, or threatened breach or violation.
Such injunctive or other equitable relief is in addition to any other rights and remedies TOPCON may possess.

10. GOVERNING LAW


The validity, performance, construction, interpretation, effect and enforcement of these LICENSE TERMS shall be
governed by and under the laws of Japan.

11. ENTIRE AGREEMENT


These LICENSE TERMS constitute the entire agreement between USER and TOPCON with respect to the subject
matter hereof, and shall supersede and cancel any and all prior written or oral agreements, undertakings,
negotiations, communications, commitments, representations, publications and advertisements, etc. not specifically
and expressly incorporated herein.
