Quiz Inversion of The Adverbs
Rewrite the following sentences putting the adverb first. Note that when a negative adverb
comes at the beginning of a sentence, we usually use an inverted word order. That means
the auxiliary verb comes before the subject.
1. The game had scarcely started when the rain came pouring down.
5. He had hardly finished his lunch when someone knocked at the door.
8. She had no sooner read the telegram than she started screaming.
