II. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:
Discuss the characteristics of Pre-colonial Literature in the Philippines.
Write a proverb and reflect how it may guide in their lives.
Adhere the beauty of literature during pre-colonial period.

Teaching Procedure/ Strategies
A. Daily Routine
B. Simple Recall/ Review : The students should recall and give the meaning of these 4words
based on their understanding of the previous lesson.
C. Motivation: The teacher shows the different paintings depicting the life of the Filipinos during
the Pre-Colonial Period and asks the students to express their insights about the paintings.

Pre-Colonial Literature (Oral Tradition)
Before the Philippines was colonized. It was already brimming with a rich tradition of oral
literature. Early Filipinos weaved together countless myths and legends to explain certain
phenomena.
Most of what have been transcribed now are taken from oral literature which means that these
stories have been passed on from one generation to another. Most of that which survived are
epics and folklores.
ORAL TRADITION

A. Riddle is a puzzle statement which uses image that has to be guessed. It relies on
metaphor.

Sagot: BUWAN/MOON
B. Proverbs are practical observations and philosophy of everyday life that are written
usually in a rhyme scheme. It is obviously meant to entertain while teaching basic skills in
surviving local life. In Filipino, These are called Salawikain .
3. Tales is a story, especially one that’s full of creative embellishments. It can be true or
fictional, but they generally consist of a narrative, with a beginning and an end, made more
interesting and exciting with vivid details.
MYTH : involves divinities and spirits who interact with human.

- Proverbs have deep meanings which can really be a guide to us in our everyday
lives. For example: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth it says that if someone gives
you a present, don't question it and be contented instead of complaining.
