Designing a symbol in Cadence Virtuoso
Objectives:
The objective of this lab is to.
Design a symbol of an inverter in Cadence Virtuoso.
Use the symbol in a sample circuit for verification.
Apparatus:
VMware workstation
CentOS 6.5
Candence Virtuoso
Procedure:
Open cadence virtuoso and in Cadence virtuoso make a new library to design the circuit
of an inverter as shown below. The transistors to be selected are selected using the
Gpdk090 library
.
Now to create a symbol goto the create tab and in it goto the symbols tab to create one. A
dialog box will appear as shown.
After pressing the ok button a black window with a rectangle will appear. Delete everything
except the input and output tags. Draw the inverter as shown below but do not connect the
input and output tags with the line but move them towards the symbol to connect. After
connecting the input and output close the file after saving.
Create a new file in the same library and in this file now make the sample circuit given by
the instructor. The circuit will be as below. To enter the Symbol in the sample circuit select
the symbol form the same file as which it was saved. This is shown below.
After setting the required values as shown in the circuit and placing the pins in the labels
as shown. In the pins window the following options will appear. For output select the output
in the “Direction” option and enter the name of the pin. This procedure will be spplied for
the inverter circuit and the pins in it.
After completing the circuit goto ADE L and in ADE L select a Transient analysis for
110ns and a DC response from -5V to 5V. the DC response will be of the pulse input as
shown above. The analysis dialog boxes are shown below.
Transient Analysis.
DC Analysis.
Analysis Window
From the above window of the Analysis Window, the input will be the input wire coming
from the circuit and the output will be the output pin as shown in the ADE L window.
Now run the circuit by clicking the play button in the side. A dialog box will appear and in
it the graph of the circuit.
