Astronaut Training Log

Congratulations, you have been
accepted into NASA’s Astronaut
Training Program!

There are 4 tasks that you must

complete in order to become an
astronaut for NASA.

1 Space STEM Astronaut Training

Log
Phase 1: Space Shuttle Math

What is the total weight of all the supplies in the cargo room?

670 kg.

How many kilograms are you over the limit?

670 kg – 500 kg = 170 kg.

Which items would you remove and why?

I would remove 10 daily meal packs because 40 daily meal packs are
only needed for 2 people in 20 days. Then, I would remove a
parachute because there are only 2 parachutes needed for 2 people
in a space shuttle to ensure astronauts safety when landing and in
case of any emergency purposes during entry, decent and landing.
Next, I would like to remove one first aid kit because 1 aid kit can
be used by 2 people if any injuries occur. Lastly, I would remove 1
space suit mainly because there are only 2 astronauts in the space
shuttle that need a space suit to wear.

Phase 3: Planet Research
Planet name: Saturn

It is the sixth planet from the sun. Distance

from the sun: 1.484 billion kilometer

How many moons does the planet have? 82 Moons

Is it an inner or an outer planet? It is an outer planet.

3 Interesting facts about this planet:

1. The second largest planet in the solar system

2. Saturn spins around on its axis very fast

3. Has thousands of beautiful rings

What is an additional modification you would add to the
Rover? Explain the function and purpose.

I would like to add a communication antenna device that is primarily

used for sending and receiving information in every direction. Other
than that, the orbiters can also send and receive messages from the
rover. The antenna can send a "beam" of information in a specific
direction and it is steerable, so the antenna can move to point itself
directly to any antenna on Earth. Lastly, the benefit of having a
steerable antenna is that the entire rover doesn´t necessarily have
to change positions to talk to Earth.
