Firstly, we, Angels would like to express sincere gratitude to our course lead Ms.

service at St. Nicholas Home Penang.

1. Goals-State the overall project goal(s)
We achieved all the goals that listed as below and we built good teamwork and good
relationship between our team members. We enjoy the whole process in this project and
course while learning in real life.

2. Objectives-List the objectives identified to achieve the programs’ goal(s)


1. Create awareness of community service amongst Wawasan Open University students
and community about the disable group.
2. To improve and provide friendly environment for Blind Visually Impaired (BVI).
3. To provide an opportunity for the Wawasan Open University students to perform the
leadership skill, planning, budgeting, implementation and soft skills while carrying out
the community service.
4. Transform IT store to an IT office.
5. To make IT office safer and more accessible to BVI’s office user.
6. To clean, tidy and reorganise the IT office.

Statement of need- The need for the project. We need to spread awareness of community
service amongst Wawasan Open University students and community about the disable
group. In addition, this experience can improve our ability in organising and planning the
general community service that involve collaboration with non-governmental organization
(NGO) in the future.

1. Blind Visually Impaired (BVI)’s IT workers.
2. Sponsor from friends, relatives, company and colleagues.

No. we achieved our set proposal goals. Furthermore, we cleaned up the drainage
system in front of the IT office for better flow.

This co-curriculum project was carried in a total of 12 students from class 4CCU1,
group B of Wawasan Open University, Penang. St. Nicholas Home Penang is a non-
profit charitable organization established in 1926 and has become school for the blind
in the 1950s, then transition to training centre in 1997. It is aims to respond to the
evolving needs of the blind and visually impaired (BVIs) Community in Malaysia,
irrespective of their religion, race and background. It is a leading Education and
vocational training centre for blind and visually impaired in Malaysia which seek to
provide the best training for BVIs, equip them with living skills and find them
employment so they can live independent lives. Programs provided are tailored to
different levels of vision loss. Example training provided there are information
technology, pastry, massage, rattan art and etc. This project is part of our co-curriculum
paper which covers a community project and we are glad to be an honoured to work
together with NGO reduces their burden yet provide them a safe and accessible
workplace.

Community service is important and it provides a positive impact on students to be


actively engaging themselves in the society it also provides a service to those who need
it most. Volunteering increases life satisfaction and awareness of responsibility.
Furthermore, enhance student personal knowledge, develop better interpersonal
communication skills and students may feel good after helping others.

This project is to create awareness of community service in our community


simultaneously instil the importance of community service and offering volunteer
service in those society in needs of help to achieve harmony and loving society. Our
teams consist of 12 members have decided to carried out the housekeeping project at
St. Nicholas Home Penang Information technology office on 12th day of June, 2022 for
about 4 to 5 hours which start at 8:30am to 12:30pm.

Structure of programme:

8.00am – Leader xxx, Secretary xxx and Assistance leader xxx reached earlier.
Then three of us started to prepare some cleaning accessories, bring out stationeries,
snack and beverage from car to outside of the IT office (ground floor). Followed by
making some arrows to show the direction from IT office to IT store which located
at second floor and also direction from IT office to nearest washroom to other team
members. Previous IT office which is currently known as IT store was located at
second floor. Team members have to shift and move useful furniture example 3
office tables, one IT store rack, 2 metal cabinets and other IT accessories to current
IT office which previously known as IT store at ground floor. Next, members to
keep unnecessary furniture and IT accessories from IT office to 2 nd floor. xxx
liaised with the person in charge xxx and IT tutor xxx understood their needs and
discussed to get the permission for knocking the wall for some IT office’s
decoration. Simultaneously, our tutor Mr. Ong and other members arrived one after
another. We took the opportunity to take a group photo right in front of St. Nicholas
Home Penang and marked our attendance before we start our activities.

8.30am – Duties briefed by group leader, then we started our activities. First, we
moved out all the furniture and things from the IT office and started to clean up the
IT office. We divided into 3 groups, the first group were our male’s team members,
their duty was to move the unwanted furniture from IT office to outside of the IT
office for temporary placement then move down the needful racks, office tables,
metal cabinet and IT accessories from 2nd floor. Ladies mopped the floor, cleaned
up dust from the walls, fans, dinnerware, furniture and others. Lastly, 3rd group
members were responsible to sweep the floor and clean up the furniture, windows
and grille door and sort out unwanted items and trash, reorganised IT accessories,
labelled and tidied up the IT office.

9.00am – Video shooting and photographers’ team started to film and busy taking
photos of the project activities. Team member xxx was selected and volunteered to
be the reporter on scene. He briefly introduced the name of the group, our tutor Mr.
Ong and the purpose of this activity. Followed by explained while filming the
process of cleaning, reorganising, shifting heavy furniture, knocking the wall to fix
the decoration. At the same time, some male members were busy moving the
unwanted heavy furniture from ground floor IT office to 2nd floor and shifting
some needful metal rack, metal cabinets and office tables from 2nd floor to ground
floor IT office. While the rest of the members swept and mopped the floor and
cleaned up the furniture from 2nd floor for ready to be used, washed grille doors,
windows, desk, and dinnerware. Group 3 members, rearranged and tidied up the IT
equipment and speakers. Printer inks and stationeries were reorganised and put into
a specific box with label for easily accessible.

11.30am – All members were taking a short break to recharge energy, together we
were having a tea break with nasi lemak, buns and beverage that prepared by xxx
and xxx.

12.00pm – All member resumed own activities and re-organised the desks, racks
and furniture together. After obtained permission from the person in charge of St.
Nicholas Home on knocking the wall. Our male’s member helped to hang the note
frame on wall right beside each desk. Come to the end, all members were packing
IT parts, speakers, headphones, printer ink and stationeries placed at specific
modified boxes with label and kept inside the cabinet. We checked up and reviewed
the IT office and made sure all walkways were free of hazard then we invited BVIs
IT office user Mr. xxx and IT tutor Mr xxx guided by group leader explained and
toured the user about the new location of furniture. We then expressed our honour
to take this opportunity to perform such meaningful community service and they
responded on our hard work. After that, we took a short video while the members
of St. Nicholas Home Mr. xxx gave his feedback speech and group photo at the IT
office. Lastly, we held a discussion on final report together and we also decided to
collect some fund from our team members together with the balance fund that
sponsored from xxx colleagues from SFI Food Sdn. Bhd donate to St. Nicholas
Penang IT department. Finally, we donated some household supplies to St.
Nicholas Home Penang IT office.

1.00pm – xxx and person in charge of sponsor xxx dropped the donation fund to the
donation drop box and we took a group photo as well. At this time, we announced
the END of our execution community service activities.

7. Project outcomes and measures of success


Attached photos and videos we filmed during the community service.
Make it a statement here, that we’re all first met physically on the day, we are glad that
we enjoy the whole process and understanding each other, and work together with team
work with friendly working atmosphere. We have done the project on time and
everything goes smoothly and successfully.

Our photographer-xxx, although he is less show up in those pictures but most of our
teams photos and videos is filmed by him. We do ask for feedback from member of BVI,
and the content video of the feedback that given by residents or members of St. Nicholas
Home Penang is attached with the Microsoft team link which includes the interview of

8. Project Benefits to Individuals and the Community- Explain the benefits to the
participants as well as the target group.
Our teams’ members learnt about the teamwork is most important while carry out an
activity with team members, and make sure the project running smoothly and completed
with success outcomes. Without the team work, we couldn’t complete the activities with
the expected time.

Hence, this project gives us an opportunity to create awareness to public about


community services to public. We are glad that we were able to organise the community
service to help the BVIs, we believe that everyone would feel happy when helping others.
The simplest daily act that we take for granted in our daily lives. Is something the less
fortunate does not get to enjoy. Some act of kindness towards the needy, brings miles of
convenience and warmth to the heart.

We are glad to learn how to planning, organise, implement a community services or


events and soft skills in this opportunity.

9. What were the lessons learned through the project?

 Develop teamwork in the future irrespective size and age group assigned
 Create and instil the awareness of community service in public via social media,
hoping to encourage more community service in the future.
 Improve student’s ability in planning, organizing event, soft skills in future.
 Communicate skills, such as how to build a relationship with first met team
members
 Create awareness that helping others bring happiness to both others and ourselves.
 Knowing how to contact and organise community services with NGO.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you so much for your generous donation of RM100 to our St. Nicholas Home Penang.
Our project to serve the BVI simultaneously creates the awareness of important of
community service on 12th June 2022 at St. Nicholas Home Penang was a success. We
managed to transform IT store to IT office and collected a total amount of RM305. The
money collected was then used to buy housekeeping groceries with total RM40, office
decoration RM 25, Snacks and beverage RM50 and a total cash donation of RM190 to St.
Nicholas Home Penang IT department.

On behalf of my team mates, I would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks
for your kind support and contribution. Our project will not be a success without your
generous contribution.
