Data storage

The act of recording (storing) information (data) on a storage medium is referred to as data storage.
Storage media includes things like handwriting, phonograph records, magnetic tape, and optical discs.
Some people think that biological molecules like RNA and DNA can store data. Almost any source of
energy can be used for recording. Electricity is needed to store and retrieve data from electronic data
storage. Digital data is a term used to describe data that is stored on a machine-readable digital
medium. One of a general-purpose computer's essential functions is computer data storage. Paper
documents require a lot more storage space than electronic records. Machine-readable data can be
recorded on paper using barcodes and magnetic ink character recognition (MICR).
