DATA SERVICES MIGRATION FROM 3.2 TO 4.1

Data Services 4.1 install vs. upgrade

 Data Services 4.1 new install vs. upgrade.

• HP Unix not supported
• Accelerator Index Designer not supported
• Needed to continue to load BI Explorer indexes to BWA.
• Need to keep 3.2 landscape until BI Explorer indexs
migrated from BWA to HANA.
• Need to understand SAP migration options / roadmap
• Per upgrade guide for DS 3.2 to DS 4.1
• Need to uninstall 3.2 & install DS 4.1
• Migrate the users, repositories, and other objects
• From admin.xml and sapconnections.xml to the SAP
BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform by running the
Upgrade Manager.
• Migrate the real-time services configuration
• Contained in the as.xml file
Data Services 4.1 Upgrade Plans

 Data Services 3.2 (HP Unix) to 4.1 SP1 P0 (Linux)

• Install new DS 4.1 on Linux (DS 3.2 on HP Unix)
• New Oracle DB for DS 4.1
• DS 3.2 shared the BOE Reporting DB.
• Makes maintenance easier with fewer dependencies
• New IPS (Information Platform Services) for DS 4.1
• Separate Reporting platform and DS platform
• Future upgrade easier with fewer dependencies.
• DS IPS will be Linux, Reporting BIP is Windows.
• Manual migration of content
• Due to new servers & new DB not sure we could use the
migration tools.
Data Services 4.1 Install

 Data Services 4.1 Install

• Software Versions
• IPS SP5 P2 (Information Platform Services)
• DS 4.1 SP1 P0 (Data Services)
• IS 4.1 SP1 P0 (Information Steward)
• Install on new platform Linux
• New server names / connections
• New Linux directories for flat files
• Moved to new Database
• All repositories neded to be re-created.
• DB User/Schema copy
• Or new & import objects from migrated central.
Data Services 4.1 Content Migration

 Data Services 3.1 Content

• DS Repositories to migrate
• 1 Secure Central, 1 shared Local (X, D, Q & P)
• 31 Local (X & D only)
• Steps for Local repository migration
• Create DB User/Schmea (DBA)
• Create DS 4.1 Local Repo (DS Repo Manager)
• Assign job server to local repo
• CMC add repo
• AD group – Add user (so they appear in CMC)
• CMC assign developer access to their repo to retrieve
password
Data Services 4.1 Content (configuration)

 Data Services Local Repositories

• Change Substitution Parameters to point at new server
directories.
 Data Services 4.1 Management Console
• Create SAP RFC Server for SAP BW Open Hub extraction
• Create SAP RFC for SAP ECC IDoc integration.
• Add Batch jobs Web service.
 Test all jobs in D, Q & P
 3rd party job scheduler
• Point jobs to new DS 4.1 environment.
• This will take time to change.
Data Services 4.1 features

• User setup easier

• Add user in AD group, adds to CMC for:
• DS Designer Repository access
• Allows network password for Designer Repo log on
• No need to give developer DB password
• DS Management Console access
• DS Central Repo access.
• LDAP authentication to CMC
• DS Management console logon
• DS Designer Repository logon
• Plan to implement SSO
• Security
• More robust security set up in CMC.
• Delivered DS security groups to get you started.
• Need CMC security knowledge.
Data Services 4.1 features (cont)

 Repositories are added in the CMC vs. DSMC

Data Services 4.1 features (cont)

 Users created once in the CMC vs. twice in DS Management Console

Data Services 4.1 features (cont)

 Designer Repository access Controlled by CMC security

• Allows access to multiple repositories without DB password.
• Read only option to repositories
Data Services 4.1 features (cont)

CMC Repository access rights to retrieve password

• Note 1742633 - How to set the permission to retrieve the repository password
automatically when logging into the Designer - DS 4.1.x
• When logging into the Designer the warning appears: "You do not have rights
to retrieve the Data Services repository password from the Central
Management Server"

Best Practices for SAPBO BI 4.0 Adaptive Processing Servers

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-31711

 After Distributing the Services to APS servers, we hit this issue when
trying to set up the SAP RFC Server for BW Open Hub extraction.
Note 1800268 - Data Services Management Console error message - RFC Server is not available
 Symptom
• Data Services Management Console error - RFC Server is not available
• Data Services Management Console is unable to find an RFC Server Service
that isn't under the server named *.EIMAdaptiveProcessingServer.
 Resolution
Work-around
Rename the CMC Enterprise Information Management Services EIM Adaptive
Server back to *.EIMAdaptiveProcessingServer.
