SECTION 200 - SITE CLEARANCE

201 CLEARANCE OF THE SITE

201.1 The Contractor shall demolish, break up and remove buildings and structures, (including,
where directed, the removal of foundations below ground level) walls, fences, debris and
superficial obstructions within the Site, in the way of or otherwise affected by the Works.
He shall clear and demolish only at times and to the extent approved by the S.O.

201.2 Subject to the provisions of Clauses 25 and 27 of the Conditions of Contract, and except
where recovery is specified in Clause 204 hereunder, all materials arising from site
clearance shall become the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of by him
either off the Site to tip or if agreed by the S.O. within the Site in an approved manner.
Burning shall not be permitted.

202 EXISTING TREES, BUSHES, UNDERGROWTH, ETC.

202.1 With the exception of those areas covered by Clause 203, all trees shall be uprooted or cut
down as near to ground level as possible and shall be removed from the Site. Burning
shall not be permitted.

202.2 Stumps and tree roots, exposed or buried logs, bushes, undergrowth, etc., unless
otherwise directed by the S.O., shall be grubbed up and deposited off the Site in tips to be
provided by the Contractor. Holes left by the stumps or roots or buried logs in areas of
embankment or sites for the permanent works or within 500 mm of the finished subgrade
surface shall, within one week, be filled with suitable material compacted in compliance
with Clause 608.

203 SITE CLEARANCE ON SOFT GROUND

In order that there shall be minimum disturbance of the ground where embankments are to be built on soft
ground, no topsoil is to be stripped from such areas, and the roots of trees, bushes,
undergrowth, etc., shall be cut flush with the ground level, and the cut surfaces shall be
sprayed with a mixture of an approved concentrated weedkiller and diesel oil. The rate
of spraying shall conform to the manufacturer's instructions. The S.O. shall have the
right to re-route or restrict the use of any vehicle or equipment if it appears that undue
disturbance is being caused.

204 EXISTING STREET FURNITURE, ETC.

All existing telegraph poles, lighting columns, traffic signs, guardrails and all items of
street furniture shall be carefully disconnected and dismantled and hauled to the
Contractor's site compound. The items shall be either stored in a satisfactory manner for
re-use or made available for collection by the relevant Local Authorities. Embedded
items shall be carefully cleared of all adhering soil or concrete. Holes left by removal of
embedded items in areas of embankment or sites of other permanent works or within
500mm of the finished subgrade surface shall, within one week, be filled with suitable
material compacted in compliance with Clause 608.

205 EXISTING SEWERS, DRAIN PIPES, CULVERTS

Where shown on the Drawings disused sewers, drain pipes and culverts shall be removed
and disposed of. Holes left by removal of sewers, drains, pipes and culverts in areas of
embankment or sites for the permanent works or within 500mm of the finished subgrade
surface shall, within one week, be filled with suitable material compacted in compliance
with Clause 608.
