Instruction: Analyze the image of the painting and answer 50-100 words the questions below:

Questions:
1. What is/are the subject/s of the painting?
The Blood Compact depicts the 1565 Sandugo between Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna
of Bohol, who were joined by other conquistadors. Datu Sikatuna was described to be 'being crowded
out of the picture by Miguel López de Legazpi and his fellow conquistadores'. It was a traditional
Filipino ceremony used to formally ratify agreements and cement friendships and treaties. The
participants to the agreement would cut their hands, pour their blood into a cup of liquid such as
wine, and then drink the concoction.

2. What do you think is the content of the painting?

The Blood Compact thus represents the shared future of Spain and the Philippines as equal friends
with the same social standing, but also concealing the reality of the violence of the Spanish
Conquista and racial biases against the natives. The two men raised a glass of wine laced with drips
of their own blood in a toast of friendship and trust.
