COMPUTER AIDED MODELLING – PROJECT REPORT

Name: A V
Vasanthvelavan
RollNumber:20101048

AIRCRAFT NAME: BOEING 747

The Boeing 747 is a large, long-range wide-body airliner designed and
manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States. After
introducing the 707 in October 1958, Pan Am wanted a jet 2 1⁄2 times its size, to
reduce its seat cost by 30% to democratize air travel.

The original 747-100 has a short upper deck with three windows per side; Pan Am
introduced it on January 22, 1970
The first 747-100s were built with six upper deck windows (three per side) to
accommodate upstairs lounge areas. Later, as airlines began to use the upper
deck for premium passenger seating instead of lounge space, Boeing offered an
upper deck with ten windows on either side as an option. Some early -100s were
retrofitted with the new configuration. The -100 was equipped with Pratt &
Whitney JT9D-3A engines. No freighter version of this model was developed, but
many 747-100s were converted into freighters. A total of 168 747-100s were
built; 167 were delivered to customers, while Boeing kept the prototype, City of
Everett. In 1972, its unit cost was US$24M (155.5M today).

COMMANDS USED:
1. Convert Entity
2. Extruded Boss/Base
3. Reference Geometry – Plane
4. Linear Pattern
PROCEDURE:
1. Select MMGS system as Unit system and select the "Front Plane" and then select Sketch.
2. Insert a cylinder.
3. draw two concentric circles.
4. Sketch the Spars and Stringers inside the circles.
5. Extrude the sketch up to 30mm to form centre.
6. Make sure not to extrude the Spars or Stringers because for now we are making only the ribs.
The Spars and Stringers must remain hollow.
7. Use the linear pattern command to create an offset of the front plane. Choose the pattern
direction normal to the front plane. Create 8 planes with a spacing of 5m.
8. Select the extruded body so that it will be copied to all the offset planes.
9. Extrude the Spars and Stringers up to the length of the fuselage (70.07m).
