Before, I thought that I knew everything about sexual self. I introspect that gender and sex are
similar or can be only be categorized as female or male and nothing else. Another thing that I
misunderstand is that both men and women have the same behavior when they hit puberty. Actions
regarding sex are out of my league since I don’t have time forknowing It at all including its humanitarian
response. The knowledge of Sexually Transmitted Diseases was not that compelling for me before
because I have this mindset that there’s no chance that I’ll be infected since I’m not prone to watching
sex content, I rarely hang out with my friends and have a few circles of friends majority are boys. I’m a
once in a blue moon type of person which means that I never go outside my house which tells that I’m
safe in those types of diseases. I basically don’t care about HIV, Herpes, and any sexually transmitted
infections because it doesn’t have a huge impact in my life and I know that in myself that I’m self-
centered and selfish back then. Well, this is the mentality that I had during those times. Now, I realized
that the sexual self is diverse and there’s a lot to contemplate with. As a man, knowing oneself sexually
and in a biological manner determines the strength and uniqueness of a sexual being. Sex and gender
are completely different since sex is the biological and physiological difference between men and
women while gender is the social and cultural differences between men and women. As puberty hits,
each of us (men and women) varies, indirectly proportional to the opposite sex. Understanding the
human response to sex is essential to experience a satisfaction. This lesson also enlighten me about the
views of those people who have STDs and I began to feel a strong urge to help them and set aside the
mindset that I have before.

2. How can you apply your new learnings to your personal experience?

In this world, it is true that we vary in our own way so as of how we view our sexual self. The
learning from this lesson will take a huge action towards my upcoming experiences. For example, it is
evident that there’s still discrimination of the LGBTQ+ communityacknowledging choices and decisions
of other people is extremely important because this is the start-up of knowing your sexual self deeper.
Understanding and accepting others based on their sexual preferences is also an advantage for
acknowledging one sexual being. Grasping information about sexually transmitted diseases will help me
be aware of its symptoms and effects which is helpful in protecting myself against sexual actions. If ever
I encounter people who have sexually transmitted diseases, I will not avoid them but rather view them
as brave beings who continuously aiming for wellness. From here, my selfishness turns into altruistic,
acknowledging the feelings and sufferings from them was a huge step inrecognizing and accepting one
sexual self.
