BUSINESS DESCRIPTION

The partially-developed embryo bones are soft enough to chew and swallow as
a whole. The mallard duck (Anas platyrhynchus), also known as the "Pateros
duck", is considered to be the most important breed for egg production to
make balut.(wikipedia)
Luzon leading balut store brings you the delicious foods which are made
with quality of fresh eggs. However, it is quite unique and has a special role in
the Filipino culture. The uniqueness comes from the way that duck are being
utilised. Unlike other Asian countries where ducks eggs are processed mainly
into salted eggs and century eggs, more than 80 percent of duck eggs in the
Philippines are processed into “balut”. Balut is sometimes referred to as
“embryonated egg” or “incubated eggs” eggs” because the eggs are harvested
and consumed when the embryo are between 14-18 days old. Balut is
considered a delicacy by the Filipinos for its unique tasted and nutritional 3
values. It is also unique for because balut is available only from street vendors
and only in the late evening.
The practice of making and eating fertilized duck eggs is a widely known
practice in Asia. In the Philippines, “balut” is a popularly known Filipino
delicacy which is made by incubating duck eggs for about 18 days. However,
criticisms against its authenticity and the unstable demand for balut in the
market pose challenges to the development of the Philippine balut industry.
In the Philippines, a culinary specialty that many non-Filipino diners find
challenging is balut, a hard-boiled egg that houses a duck embryo. The
fertilized duck egg, considered a delicacy not just in the Philippines but in other
Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Cambodia, gets its name from
the Tagalog phrase "balut sa puti," or "wrapped in white" (via Gastro Obscura).
DEMAND AND SUPPLY
The Philippine duck industry is dominated by balut (partially hatched embryos) production and by
smallholder production that accounted for more than 75 percent of the total duck production.
However, the commercial sector is gaining momentum in moving towards a higher degree of
vertical integration and contract farming and there appears to be some increase in the demand
for duck meat. At present, almost all of the demand for duck eggs is met by domestic production
while about two percent of duck meat consumption is imported. As such, imports appear not to
be a serious threat to the domestic supply at present. However, it is envisaged that as trade
liberalisation continues, the Philippine duck industry will face increasing competition from
overseas and other food products. Continuing survival and future growth of the industry depend
on its ability to compete in a free trade environment, which, in turn, depends on efficiency of the
production and marketing systems relative its competitors.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority survey of 2016 which was conducted January
– July of 2016.
As stated the top five (5) highest producing regions in terms of duck inventory were Central
Luzon, Western Visayas, SOCCSKSARGEN, Cagayan Valley and Ilocos Region. These regions
accounted for about 72.19 percent of the total duck inventory of 10.52 million birds.
(Authority, 2016) With this data, Love-love Duck Farm will be one of the contributors to
boost
the supply of Ducks in SOCCSKSARGEN. As observed within the region, duck eggs for Balut or
penoy still has a shortage within the streets at night.

TARGET MARKET
Balut is a popular street food in the Philippines. It consists of a fertilized duck egg that has
been incubated for approximately 18 days; a period of time which results in the formation
of a partially developed embryo within the shell. Balut is eaten directly from the shell after
being hard-boiled or steamed. Balut is a relatively inexpensive source of protein and
calcium, and is considered by some to be an aphrodisiac for men. However, women also
loves to eat balut and it is relatively available in the market, particularly in the streets, at
night.
COMPETITORS
 Within in our barangay there are only few sellers of balut and usually not everyday.
 Competition in the market of balut making is not that high since most of the famers
