Entrepreneurship
Definition
Women entrepreneurs may be defined as a woman or a group of women
who initiate , organise and run a business concern.
Schumpeter - “ Women entrepreneurs are those women who innovate,
initiate or adopt a business activity” .
Challenges faced by Women Entrepreneurs

Measures taken for the development of women
entrepreneurship
1. Federation of Indian Women Entrepreneur (FIWE)
➢ It was established in 1993
➢ It provides training in export marketing , quality control and
standardisation, legal formalities or rules and regulations for running
small and medium enterprises.
➢ It provides greater access to latest technologies.
➢ It assists women in identification of investment opportunities .
➢ It organizes international exhibitions , buyer and and seller meet,
seminars and symposia so as to help women entrepreneurs to get great
exposure to regional and global business environment and
opportunities.
2. Federation of ladies organisation
➢ It was formed in 1983
➢ Objective - To promote entrepreneurship and professional
excellence in women
➢ It works at three levels
➢ At basic level - conduct entrepreneurship development
programmes for women from low income group
➢ At middle level - conduct workshops and seminars for women
entrepreneurs who runs small business.
➢ At higher level - conducts advanced programmes.
3. Consortium of women entrepreneurs of India ( CWEI)
➢ It was formed in 2000
➢ It provides common platform to women entrepreneurs to find
innovative techniques.
➢ It acts as intermediary between Indian entrepreneurs and
overseas agencies for exports.
4. Banks
➢ Banks particularly commercial banks have formulated several
schemes to benefit women entrepreneurs.
➢ These include rural entrepreneurship development
programmes and other training programmes, women self help
group , promotion of rural non- farm enterprise , women
ventures etc.
5. National alliance of young Entrepreneurs (NAYE)

➢ Its women’s wing was set up in 1975


➢ Getting better access to capital , infrastructure and markets.
➢ Identifying investment opportunities .
➢ Organising seminars , workshops and training programmes for
developing their entrepreneurial capabilities.
➢ Developing managerial and productive capabilities.
