Management Guru Name 1: Henry Ford

Profile: According to the biography of Mr. Ford (Corporate Ford). He was born on July
30, 1863 in Spring wells Township, Wayne country, Michigan. A proud of son of Mr.
William and Mrs. Mary Ford. He is the eldest of six children, four boys and two girls. His
father was an Irishman from County Cork who immigrated to America in 1847 and lived
on a farm in Wayne County. I also learned from the said article that he was already
interested in mechanics at an early age. He had a wife named Clara Jane Bryan, a
daughter of a Wayne country farmer, and got married on April 11, 1888. In 1882, after
completing his apprenticeship in 1882, he became a machinist’s apprentice in Detroit in
the shops of James F. Flower and Brothers, and in the plant of the Detroit Dry Dock
Company.  In 1891, he was employed as an engineer at the Edison Illuminating
Company of Detroit. He became chief engineer on November 6, 1893. 

Profession: Based on the researcher, Mr. Ford is an Inventor, Engineer, Entrepreneur,


and Industrialist. He has an early interest in mechanics starting at the age of 12, he was
already spending the most of his free time in a tiny machine shop that he had built
himself. He became the founder of Henry Ford Company. He is a builder of automobiles
representing his own brand Which led him to construct a small one-cylinder gasoline
model. 

Affiliation: According to the said article. On August 19, 1899. Mr. Ford had his first
company, the Detroit Automobile Company that went to bankruptcy about 18 months
after it was established. On October 10, 1901 Mr. Ford founded his second automobile
venture company, the Henry Ford Company, In1902, after falling out with his financial
backers, Mr. Ford left the company with the rights to his name and 900 dollars on his
pocket. On June 16, 1903, Mr. Ford and 12 other investors contributed $28,000 to
establish Ford Motor Company. In 1906, he was named president and majority owner.

back his company.

Unique Characteristics: Mr. Henry Ford has characteristic of a curios mind. Based to
the said article, at a young age he was already built some stuff in a tiny machine shop,
He also tear apart some stuff and then put it back in order to understand how they
functioned. When it comes to Mr. Ford company, he has characteristic of a quality man,
he believes and prioritized quality above everything else. Mr. Ford was known as a
great inventor, and he credited his success to his innovative mind because he believes
in mysterious mind.

According to the quote of Mr. Ford, it clearly reminds us that when we feel everything is
against us, we experience struggles and challenges in life, which lead us to achieve
new heights. I also agreed to the quote that Mr. Ford said, since when we feel some
struggle, we have a choice if we give up or continue to moving forward, and every
successful person chose to keep moving forward.

Notable Achievements: According to the said article, in 1896, he completed an early


horseless carriage called the ford quadricycle his first experimental self-propelled
vehicle or automobile. Henry ford founded one of the most successful companies in the
world (Ford motor company). he established a world record for the mile, covering the
distance in 39.4 seconds on January 12, 1904 on the winter ice of Lake St. Clair. The
first car built by the Company was sold July 15, 1903. In 1919, Henry, Clara, and Edsel
Ford acquired the interest of all minority stockholders for $105,820,894 and became the
sole owners of the Company. In 1946, Henry Ford was lauded at the Automotive

Golden Jubilee for his contributions to the automotive industry. the American Petroleum
Institute awarded him its first Gold Medal annual award for outstanding contributions to
the welfare of humanity. The United States government honored him in 1965 by
featuring his likeness with a Model T on a postage stamp as part of their Prominent
Americans series. In collaboration with Samuel Crowther, he wrote My Life and Work
(1922), Today and Tomorrow (1926), and Moving Forward (1930), which described the
development of Ford Motor Company and outlined his industrial and social theories. He
also published Edison, As I Know Him (1930), with the same collaborator. Doctor of
Engineering degrees were conferred on him by the University of Michigan and Michigan
State College (now Michigan State University), and he received an honorary Doctor of
Law degree from Colgate University.

Profile: According to the site (Success Story), Mr. Kevin Plank was born on August
13,1972, in Kensington, Maryland. The youngest of five brothers of Mr. William (Land
Developer) and Mrs. Jayne Plank (Mayor). In his childhood, he has been ardent football
fan, and he played youth football with the Maple Leafs association. He studied at
Georgetown Preparatory School, Fork Union Military Academy, St. John’s College High
School & University of Maryland and graduated in 1996. Mr. Plank lunched Under
Armour during his university days. Mr. Plank came up with several small businesses
and used the funding to capitalize his flagship sportswear project. Plank launched
Cupid's Valentine, a seasonal business selling roses on Valentine's Day. Cupid's
Valentine earned $3,000, which Plank used as seed money for Under Armour.

Profession: According to the said article, Mr. Plank is an Entrepreneur and a


Philanthropist. Mr. Plank always had his entrepreneurial instincts even before he
launched Under Armour.  He is a founder of the brand of Under Armour. He is an
innovator that represent his own brand. Many famous athletes wear this brand.

Affiliation: According to the said article, The Under Armour Emerged out of need for
Mr. plank. The idea that led to Under Armour was sparked while playing football. He
said he was the sweatiest person on the football field, and he desperately wants to wear
a shirt that would keep him comfortable and dry while playing. He began to make a shirt
that would wick off the sweat, and make the player feel lighter and faster. Before the
name of Under Armour was made, there are many named he attempted to use but
unfortunately those named was unsuccessful. He asked his teammates to try his shirts,
and explained to them that his t-shirt would help them to improve their performance. In
1996, Mr. Plank finished his first year selling shirts with $17,000 in sales. In 1999, Mr.
Plank advertised his product in ESPN magazine. The advertisement resulted in $1
million in direct sales which led to recognize by athletes and teams so they began to
buy the product. Under Armour’s first TV ad came up in 2003. In 2010 Mr. Plank's
company reached $1 billion annual revenue for the first time, and Plank became a
billionaire in 2011.

Unique Characteristics: Based on my understanding, Mr. Plank characteristics are


Rist-taker, Foster Entrepreneurial Spirit, Diligent, and Generous. Before he launched
Under Armour he had some small business that helps him to achieve his goals. He
would take risk for her company even if his employee was affected, but he trusted his
instinct which led to have a successful company. He donated money to Cupid
Foundation to the Baltimore-based College Bound (2016), University of Maryland
(2014), St. John's College High School in Washington, DC (2015), Archdiocese of
Baltimore (2016), and etc.

Notable Achievements: According to the said article, Mr. Forbes recognized Plank in
2012 for his phenomenal work in changing players’ experience on the field. He was
listed at #3 on the Forbes’ lists of “Annual 40 under 40” & “America’s 20 Most Powerful
CEOs 40 and Under. Under Armour’s revenues passed the 1$ billion mark in 2010.

Profile: According to the site (Wikipedia), Mrs. Susan Wojcicki his full name is Susan
Diane Wojcicki, she was born on July 5, 1968, Santa Clara, California, U.S. The
daughter of Mr. Stanley (physics professor) and Mrs. Esther Wojcicki (educator
of Jewish descent), she has two sisters, Janet Wojcicki (PhD, anthropologist and
epidemiologist) and Anne Wojcicki (founder of 23andme). Mrs. Wojcicki grew up on the
Stanford campus, she studied history and literature in Harvard University, and
graduated with honors in 1990. In 1993, Mrs. Wojcicki received her Masters of Science
in economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. In 1998, Mrs. Wojcicki
received masters of Business Administration from the UCLA Anderson School of
Management. On August 23, 1998, Mrs. Wojcicki married Dennis troper in Belmont,
California. They have five children. On December 16, 2014, Mrs. Wojcicki wrote an op-
ed in The Wall Street Journal about the importance of paid maternity leave.

Profession: According to the said article, Mrs. Wojcicki is an economist, Management


Consultant, manager, Youtuber. At a young age of Mrs. Wojcicki, her first business was
selling "spice ropes" door-to-door at age 11. Before he founded the YouTube she had
several works. In 1999, Mrs. Wojcicki was the first marketing manager in Google and

before he worked on google, Mrs. Wojcicki worked in marketing at Intel Corporation in


Santa Clara, California, and was a management consultant at Bain & Company and
R.B. Webber & Company. At Google, she worked on the initial viral marketing
programs. She handled two of Google's largest acquisitions, $1.65 billion purchase of
YouTube in 2006 and the $3.1 billion purchase of DoubleClick in 2007.
Affiliation: According to the said article. In February 2014, Mrs. Wojcicki became the
CEO of YouTube.  She was "the most important person in advertising," and she was
one of Time's 100 most influential people in 2015. Mrs. Wojcicki known as the most
powerful woman on the Internet. When Mrs. Wojcicki became the CEO of YouTube,
company announced that it had reached 2 billion logged-in users a month, and that
users were watching one billion hours a day. There are localized versions of YouTube in
100 countries around the world across 80 languages. The YouTube has an income for
people (vloggers/ influencer) by having an advertisement you can earn money, since
YouTube has a lot of users, they will see the products in YouTube. YouTube gave us
knowledge and information that can help to solve our problem.

Unique Characteristics: Based on my understanding, Mrs. Wojcicki has characteristics


of Innovative, resistant, and Influential speaker. Mrs. Wojcicki always had featuring new
methods to work and her company, she has creative thinking regarding to new ideas.
She is competitive since some people underestimate women strength about works, so
he favored to have more women worker than men. Mrs. Wojcicki influence people since
she can encourage people to be a vlogger, every vlogger is an influencer, so we should
take since the audience can adopt the manner, skills, behavior, and etc. (bad
characteristics)

what they deserve, and know what is their limitation.

Notable Achievements: According to the said article, Mrs. Wojcicki was named #1 on
Vanity Fair's New Establishment list in 2019. In 2013, she was named #1 on the
Adweek Top 50 Execs list, which recognizes the top media executives within an
organization. In 2017, she ranked #6 on Forbes list of the World's 100 Most Powerful
Women. In 2018, she ranked #10 on Fortune's list of Most Powerful Women. Mrs.
Wojcicki is currently ranked #41 on Forbes list of America's Self-Made Women.
