SAFETY NOTES

• Complete required Permit-To-Work (PTW).

• Lockout / Tag-out Permit required.
• Review / Complete Job-Safety-Analysis (JSA).
• Inform Area authority if work is carried out on critical equipment for ongoing
operation.
• Do not wear jewellery when working around rotating machinery.
• Wear all proper safety equipment.

JOB PLAN INSTRUCTION

1. Inspect proximity switches, cables, Junction boxes and glands for EXD integrity

2. DC Motor. Check for excessive noise or vibration.

3. Check for excessive motor or bearing temperatures.

4. Pin out lockout switch and ensure motor will not start.
Inspect the commutator. The commutator should have a polished, slightly brown surface under
the brushes. (See figure/drawing 1)
5. Note: Never use emery cloth on a commutator. The abrasive particles not only scratch the
surface, but are conductive and lodge between the commutator segments. This leads to short
circuits
6. Isolate motor and Check brushes for freedom of movement and frayed or broken tails

7. Check brushes for pitting or breakage. (See figure/drawing 1)

8. Check brush holders springs for any broken once. (See figure/drawing 2)
Check clearance between brush holder and commutator (1.5 – 2.0 mm). (See figure/drawing

10. Check for excessive dirt, oil, or carbon build-up.

11. Check blower and motor for any unusual vibrations.

12. Check motor heater operation.

13. Megger DC Motor Armature coil. (Lift all Carbon brushes.)

14. Megger DC Motor Main field coil. (Lift all Carbon brushes.)

15. Megger Blower Motor and record in table.

16. Measure blower motor phase A and record in table.

17. Measure blower motor phase B and record in table.

18. Measure blower motor phase C and record in table.

19. Check entire blower ducting for any holes,craks.

Remove Arc Shield from each contactor and check the condition of the tips. Make sure Arc

Shields are properly replaced.
22. Inspect copper braid conductors for overheating or fraying.

23. Make sure panel is clean and dry and the panel heater is on.
