To defend Iloilo from potential invasions, the city was fortified, either as Fort San Pedro or

Fort Nuestra Senora del Rosario. The old fort has been rebuilt, and the location where it
formerly stood is now marked with a statue of Christ in a park. The park is a popular location
for eating "inasal" or street cuisine, spending the night with friends and family, and watching
the sunset. Many Ilonggos visit this location to relax and take a break. Because it's near to
our community and where I used to go every afternoon to unwind, hang out with friends,
watch the sunset, and eat street food as a child and into adulthood, Fort San Pedro has had
a tremendous impact on not just our history but also my life. It serves as a reminder of our
origins and the ways in which historical events have impacted and transformed us.
