Gaps in Communication Observed

The project manager, Reichart, and the functional manager's communication was a
challenge during the Trophy Project's execution. From the case, these operational managers were
charging the direct labor time in the project, but they worked on their projects. In requesting an
explanation for this mismanagement, the project manager was told not to focus on allocating
resources to the managers. This lack of communication between these team members was the
primary factor that led to the project's lack of completion according to the corporation's
schedules and budget. Whenever the project manager complained about functional managers'
case, no one believed his case, which intensified the project's failure.

Did the project appear to be planned correctly?

The Trophy Project appears to have been planned accordingly with a schedule and budget
from the start. Reichart was focused on finishing the project as designed by the team though the
line managers did not appropriately play their role. Most of the cost overruns made during the
project were due to the functional managers' mismanagement. However, during the execution of
a project, the communication factor has a crucial impact in ensuring that the project remains on
its schedule and that all team members' roles are well allocated. Through the meetings and
progress report, Reichart would have confirmed that none of the project team members
underworks or misuses the project resources and the time factor.

Recommendations to resolve the Current Situation

Before the kick of a project, the project manager and the project team should collaborate
to develop an appropriate plan that will be used to ensure the success of the project.
Communication factors are essential for the project. The project manager's effectiveness and
success should discuss how often communication should be done, communication channels, and
the individual responsibilities.

Secondly, the corporation's stakeholders should manage the project with an active
responsibility in the communication process. If the stakeholders were engaged at first sight to
resource mismanagement in the Trophy Project, the challenges would have been highlighted and
solutions created. The stakeholders are involved by categorizing them in terms of interests,
influence, power, and expectations.
Lastly, the project should always encourage team communication through the appropriate
channels that they have identified. This increases engagement, productivity, and also customer
product satisfaction.
