Supervisory tools and techniques to

help teachers be more learner-centered
O Group Barkadahan | EDM222

Instructional supervision
▪ Instructional supervision is a professional continuous and cooperative process for the improvement of instruction.
▪ According to Glickman (1981), the goal of instructional supervision is to help teachers learn how to increase their own capacity to
achieve professional learning goals for their students.

CLASSROOM VISITATIONS
▪ An observer (usually a superior) visits the class during session and witness
how teaching is done. This gives the teacher an opportunity to get
insights and comments of the observer in order to become better or to
improve teaching method/s used.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION
▪ In this tool, teachers are evaluated by their students on the
instructional tools/ techniques that the they used for the period.
▪ The proper domain is “the classroom behavior of the teacher and not the
teacher as a person”.
▪ The purpose of clinical supervision is to create a learning climate in
which the teacher candidate can attain the skills of teaching.

Student Feedback system / evaluation

▪ A process by which a teacher receives individualized support to enhance their
instruction in order to improve education for all students. It is also a
vehicle for developing professional, responsible teachers.
▪ This way, the students will feel empowered that their opinion matters and
will consequently lead them to be engaged in the discussions.
▪ In the same way, teachers will take a more student-centered focus on the
teaching methods.

ONLINE PLATFORMS
With the need to conduct classes online during the pandemic, the shift to online platforms have become helpful both for the teachers and
students.
