Name: Kristan Gailord I. Gonzaga Assignment No.: 2

Yr. & Section: 1 -5 Professor: Maria Aurora De Leon
Subject: Understanding the Self Date: October 25, 2022

Sociology
Activity II.
1. How important are peer groups to socialization? In what ways do they influence individuals
throughout the life course?
- It is very important because growing child learns from his peer group some very significant
lesson. Since peer group members are the same socialization level, they communicate with
each other easily and naturally. They also encourage children, without being under adult
supervision, to establish relationships with each other.
2. Have you ever observed someone experiencing a self-fulfilling prophecy? Explain. If you have
not personally observed this, use an example from the media, books, movies, or TV.
- Both high and low expectations are prime instances of self-fulfilling prophecies. We often
perform better in school than we would otherwise when a teacher has high expectations for
us (students) and conveys those expectations to us through his actions and words. On the
other hand, when a teacher has low expectations for us and lets his pupils know about it,
we will perform worse in class than we otherwise would. As a result, the instructor's
expectations for the students help to create a description of the scenario that is accurate for
both the teacher and the student.
3. Have you ever experienced role strain or role conflict? Describe the different roles and how
they were strained or conflicted. How did they resolve this?
- Each of us has different obligations and functions in our life. As a student, I occasionally
experienced role strain, particularly when I was having problems meeting the demands of
being an honor student and staying on top of the assigned work. Being a student and the
older sister in the family have distinct obligations, and it can be challenging to balance both.
I'm dealing with a role conflict. Role strain differs from role conflict in that it happens when a
person finds it challenging to fulfill the demands of a certain position in life. Role conflict, on
the other hand, is a feeling of stress that comes from juggling different responsibilities and
life situations. The only way to resolve such a problem is to believe that I can meet those
expectations of being an honor student while juggling roles and responsibilities as a
student/big sister. And also, to ask a helping if things get out of hand.
