前言
还记得准备申请那会,对于北美的电力电子几乎没有认识,只知道 CPES 的
Fred Lee,还有听过报告和看过论文的几个教授。后来一点点查找资料,向国外
的前辈打听,和一起申请的战友交流,慢慢建立起了一定的概念。回首这段时光,
当然有看着自己逐渐积累的喜悦,但同样也走了不少弯路,耗费了大量的时间。
我来自一所 PE 有一定实力,但是没什么出国留学氛围的大学(NUAA),在国外
读 PhD 的师兄师姐数量屈指可数,这也决定了我无法像电气四虎的学生那样拥
有广泛的校友资源。相信每年都有不少人和当初的我一样,打算留学但是苦于 PE
方面信息的匮乏。因此,在申请结束之后,我决定将自己所掌握的北美各 PE 学
校及老师的情况进行整理和扩充,做成一份系统的文档,分享给志在出国留学的
PE 学子们。
刚开始着手做这件事的时候,并没有想到工作量会很大。但是对着 US News
的排名一所所学校查找,我发现北美地区拥有 PE 研究和老师的学校远比想象的
要多,甚至有很多学校是我在整理之前根本没有听说过的。诚然,其中不少学校
绝大多数中国学生并不会去考虑申请,但是既然开始了这项工作,我也就希望自
己能尽可能完整地记录北美地区 PE 的情况,于是导致目录越来越长。即便如此,
在北美浩如烟海的大学当中,也一定会有漏网之鱼,如果您发现了这样的情况,
还请谅解并告知。
在整理补充的过程当中,困扰我最多的并不是工作量,而是该以怎样的角度
去写。如果只是罗列各个学校的老师和研究领域,那固然比较简单,但我想多数
人并不满足于看到这些信息。大家肯定想知道一个老师究竟 N 不 NB,Ni 不 Nice,
Pu 不 Push。可是一方面,我作为一个才毕业的硕士,何来资格去评判各个教授
的 NB 程度呢?另一方面,像 Nice 和 Push 这种评价,本身是非常主观的,想要
以第三方的角度去描述实在是很困难。经过权衡,我收集了像美国工程院院士、
IEEE Fellow、教育背景、获奖情况(比如 Newell,Middlebrook、Bass 这类 PE 领
域的著名奖项)以及担任职务等信息来间接反映一个教授的 NB 程度,而像大牛、
为人 Nice、比较 Push 这类带着个人色彩的评价,也基本是网上的公论或是至少
有两三个当事人(比如那个老师的学生)共同评价的结果。倘若其中有些文字引
起您的不适,我绝非有意冒犯,还请海涵并告知。
此外,根据给一些朋友看过之后的反馈,大家普遍希望能增加一些各学校及
导师的学生就业情况及工业界分布的信息。然而,由于人脉和时间有限,这些资

料又很难在网上查实,实在是无能为力了。但我同样也希望未来能够增加这部分
内容,毕竟 PE 与实际工业界是密不可分的。
在我个人申请及本文档的完成过程中,我得到了很多战友、前辈的无私帮助

将内容从北美扩展到全球,从学术界扩展到工业界。无论您是对该文档有什么建

1. 到学校官网按照【学校→学院→系→研究领域/老师】的顺序查找

Step 4:找带有 Departments 关键词的链接,如果没有就选择 Academics,找到
Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) 或者 Electrical Engineering (EE)的链接,
进入系主页 ↓

Step 7:当然,很多时候并没有专门的 Power 研究主题,那么就要到 Faculty
List 里面去找了。回到 Step 5 的系主页,选择 Faculty ↓

Step 2:翻几页,找到和 PE 有关的内容(研究、老师、实验室等)↓
这个方法比较适合不确定某个学校是否有 PE 相关研究的时候。

Minjie Chen:小 AP,2015 年 PhD@MIT,Perreault 的学生,清华大学校友。研
究领域主要为高频电力电子。其名下实验室:Princeton Power Electronics Research
Lab (PowerLab)。

University of Wisconsin, Madison (UW)
这里有全球顶尖的电机实验室 WEMPEC,且学校综排靠前,环境优美。但是
WEMPEC 招人基本第一年只给 AD,只有通过了 PhD 考核才有机会拿到 offer,
因此性价比打了一定折扣,不过自费一年之后拿到 offer 概率还是比较高的。大
部分老师名下都有中国学生。

Qiang Li:小 AP,2011 年 PhD@VT,Fred Lee 的学生,浙江大学校友,研究领
域主要为高功率密度变换器,新器件应用,电力电子功率集成,磁性元件设计等,
人很 nice,面试用中文。和 Fred Lee 在一个组。

University of Texas, Dallas (UTD)
综排不高(成立不到 50 年),但是不折不扣的 PE 强校(没有 PS)
,有不少做 PE
相关工作的 Faculty,虽然老师以印度、伊朗人为主,但中国学生不少,且地处德
州,就业有优势,再者 UTD 学校本身近几年发展不错,是申请 PE 性价比比较
高的去处。借用 Dr. Hoi Lee 个人网站上的话:“Within 15-minute driving distance
from the campus of UTD, there are many worldwide semiconductor IC companies
focusing on Power IC business like Texas Instruments Inc., On Semiconductor Inc.,
Linear Technology Corp., Maxim Integrated Inc., Intersil Corp., Huawei Inc., Diodes
Inc., etc. Many job opportunities and summer internships are offered to graduate
students in Power IC area. In addition, Dallas/Fort Worth is the fourth largest
metropolitan area in US and is often dubbed as ‘the Silicon Valley of the South’. ”

Keyue M. Smedley:女,IEEE Fellow,1991 年 PhD@CIT,大牛 Middlebrook 和
Cuk 的学生,浙江大学校友。她是单周控制的提出者,学院派,基本功极为扎实,
研究领域主要为变换器拓扑、建模、控制等。近几年比较低调,自己有开公司,
学生不多,个人网站好久没更新了,但是文章数量依然非常可观。

Johan H. Enslin:IEEE Fellow,南非人,1988 年 PhD@ Rand Afrikaans University,
曾在工业界工作 20 多年,之后在 UNCC 任教,是 UNCC EPIC 的创始人。于 2016

大牛,学生很多在当老师。其名下实验室:Electric, Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid
Electric Vehicle Research,只有他一个老师,但是实验室人非常多,有十多个 PhD,
其中大部分是中国学生。

历年 William E. Newell Power Electronics Award 得主列表
The William E. Newell Power Electronics Award has been presented annually since
1977 for outstanding achievement in power electronics. Achievements by which an
individual is judged to have made outstanding contributions encompass a broad range
of activities and include teaching, innovative research, consulting endeavors,
professional seminars, major project or program management, and the general
communication and advocacy of power electronics technology to the technical
community as a whole. The technical disciplines that encompass the field of power
electronics include the analysis, design, development, simulation and application of
electronic devices, magnetics, controls and power circuits for inverters, converters and
motor drives ranging in power level from fractions of a watt to megawatts.

The R. David Middlebrook Award was established in 2011 to honor an individual who
is judged to have accomplished outstanding contribution in the technical field of power
electronics, within one or more subfields such as modeling & control, design-oriented
