12–4. Traveling with an initial speed of 70 km/h, a car accelerates at 6000 km/h2 along a
straight road. How long will it take to reach a speed of 120 km/h? Also, through what
distance does the car travel during this time?
12–29. A particle moves along a straight line with an acceleration 2√ / , where
v is in m/s. If s = 0, v = 4 m/s when t = 0, determine the time for the particle to achieve a
velocity of 20 m/s. Also, find the displacement of particle when t = 2 s.
12–82. A rocket is fired from rest at x = 0 and travels along a parabolic trajectory
described by y2 = (120000x) m. If the x component of acceleration is ax = (0.25t2) m/s2,
where t is in seconds, determine the magnitude of the rocket’s velocity and acceleration
when t = 10 s.
12–97. Measurements of a shot recorded on a videotape during a basketball game are
shown. The ball passed through the hoop even though it barely cleared the hands of the
player B who attempted to block it. Neglecting the size of the ball, determine the
magnitude vA of its initial velocity and the height h of the ball when it passes over player
B.
12–98. A projectile is fired from the platform at B. The shooter fires his gun from point A
at an angle of 30o. Determine the muzzle speed of the bullet if it hits the projectile at C.
12–100. It is observed that the skier leaves the ramp A at an angle θA = 25o with the
horizontal. If he strikes the ground at B, determine his initial speed vA and the time of
flight tAB.
12–116. The car travels around the circular track
having a radius r = 300 m such that when it is at
point A it has a velocity of 5 m/s, which is increasing
at the rate 0.06 m/s2, where t is in seconds.
Determine the magnitudes of its velocity and
acceleration when it has traveled one-third the way
around the track.
12–142. A toboggan is traveling down along a curve which can be approximated by the
parabola y = 0.01x2. Determine the magnitude of its acceleration when it reaches point A,
where its speed is vA = 10 m/s, and it is increasing at the rate of 3 /s .
12–163. At the instant shown, the water sprinkler
is rotating with an angular speed ! 2 rad/s, and
an angular acceleration !% 3 rad/s2. If the nozzle
lies in the vertical plane and water is flowing
through it at a constant rate of 3 m/s, determine
the magnitudes of the velocity and acceleration of
a water particle as it exits the open end, r = 0.2 m.
12–205. If the rope is drawn toward the motor M at a speed of , 5.. /, where t
is in seconds, determine the speed of cylinder A when t = 1 s.
