Before you swim into this pretentious world, I can only ask you one question.

Do you
like playing an absorbing, story-rich yet time-consuming game? Because there are only
two answers, don’t play it at all, or finish the game with an ecstatically happy face (and
probably a round of applause too).

The game starts with you playing as a cop detective amid the investigation of a murder
case. But before that, you are given some points to customize your playstyle based on
four distinct aspects: Intellect, Psyche, Physique, and Motorics. You can choose
whatever you want on this one (you will eventually have a sizable number of resources
to catch up with those skill points later in the game), but I suggest you invest on Intellect
and Psyche first.

At the beginning of the game, you may find it quite confusing due to little explanation
about what is currently happening. I also didn’t find myself having a sheer amount of
playing time and thought about quitting. But a couple of hours later, I finally found
myself fully immersed as a cop detective in the city of Revachol. My strong advice is to
play this game patiently until you find yourself immersed within the game, because
when you finally do, oh boy, this game indulges you with so many things that I can’t
even point out every good thing that there are. But here we go:

- The writing is out of this world. I’ve never played a game with outstanding writing like
this. This changed my views on how a game should be written. I gave this 10/10.
- I appreciate that the game is fully voiced in English, so you can immediately plunge
yourself into this world (considering the vast amount of text within the game).
- Every choice matters. Yes, you must be discreet about what to choose. The world
doesn’t bend to your volition. You can die in absurd or stupid ways (I once did)
- This is not only about murder. This game goes far beyond that. Yes, you can choose
political views (somehow, it’s relatable and socially sensible to the real world) as you
like, with dozens of "thought" to choose from. As described in the game: Become a
hero or an absolute disaster of a human being.

The downside of this game (for me personally) comes only from a technical point of
view:

- The loading time between (when you enter/exit) area are quite long (~4 seconds)
- I found a little bug where you can’t consume your items (and I find it quite vexing)

In conclusion, my playtime (currently sitting at 53.8 hours) didn’t lie. Disco Elysium is a
masterpiece and one of the best games I’ve ever played.
