Basic Description of Fluvastatin

● Fluvastatin is used together with a proper diet to lower high cholesterol and
triglycerides (fats) in the blood.
● Helps prevent problems that are caused by fats clogging the blood vessels.
○ Example: Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
● It works by blocking an enzyme that is needed by the body to make cholesterol,
which reduces the amount of cholesterol in the blood.
● Belongs in the group of medicine of statins
● Product is available in forms of:
○ Capsule
○ Tablet

Precautions

● Using this medicine while you are pregnant can harm your unborn baby
● Call doctor if you experience:
○ Muscle pain/cramps/spasms/stiffness
○ Tenderness
○ Weakness
○ Dark coloured urine
○ Diarrhea
○ Fever
 ○ Headache
○ Stomach aches
○ Yellow eyes/Yellow skin
○ Weight loss
○ Loss of appetite
○ These are symptoms of muscle condition called rhabdomyolysis,
which can lead to serious kidney problems

● You may need to stop using if you had major surgery, a major injury, or any other
serious health problems.

9. dizziness
10. fast heartbeat
11. frequent urge to urinate
12. hives
13. itching
14. lower back or side pain
15. muscle cramps, spasms, or stiffness
16. muscular pain, tenderness, wasting, or weakness
17. pain, swelling, or redness in the joints
18. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
19. skin rash
20. tightness in the chest
