1. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the student should be able to:
 Solve Quadratic Equation using Extracting Square Roots
 Engage with time management in solving quadratic equation
 Illustrate quadratic equation
 Familiarize the number of perfect squares

II. SUBJECT MATTER

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preparatory Activities
*Prayer

-Let us all stand up for our prayer, (One student will lead the prayer)
lets us pray. “our father…”

-“Good morning Ma’am!”

*Greetings
-Good morning class!
( Students Obliged and take their
seats)

Before you take your seats, kindly

pick up the pieces paper on the
floor and arrange your chairs (Student’s will raised their hands
properly. once called) “No one absent today
Ma’am”

*Checking of attendance
Okay, miss secretary may I know
who is absent for today?

Okay, thank you miss secretary

*Checking of Assignment
(Learners do as what teacher said)
Last meeting, I gave assignment to
be passed today right? Now get
your assignment and exchange your
notebooks to your seatmate

B. Preliminary Activities

* Drill

At the back on your paper kindly

write 1 to 5 and answer the
following.

“Find my square roots” 1. 16

1. 256 2. 8
2. 64 3. 12
3. 144 4. 9
4. 81 5. 20
5. 400

*Review

Before we proceed to our next

topic let us review first.
What is our lesson last meeting?
Our topic last meeting is all about
solving quadratic equation

Last time we tackle about the

quadratic equations, Quadratic equation is
any equation that can be form as where x
represents an unknown, and a, b, and c are
real numbers where a≠0.
(student raised their hand)
Okay, what if the in the given
equation is a=0 what equation is that? Ma’am if a=0, then the equation is
linear

What are we called in this equation Ma’am it is the standard form of

ax +bx +c=0 ,
2 quadratic equation

Very Good! Thankyou

Example
2
3 x + 4 x +3=0 2
3x
Where is the quadratic term in
this equation?
4x
Okay, Very Good!

How about the linear term? 3

Lastly the constant term

Very Good Class!

Ma’am the value of a = 3, b = 4 and
c=3
Now, what are the value of a, b,
c?

Do you have any question regarding

to this topic? No, Ma’am!

C. Developmental Activities

*Motivation

Let’s play the game, I will group

you into four (4) then each group
will provide a white board and they
write each quadratic equation in
standard form and give the value of
a, b, and c. The first group who got
the answer will get 5 points. The
second group will be received 3
points. Third group give will get 2
points and the last group is 1 point.

Write each quadratic equation in

standard form (ax² + bx + c = 0),
then identify the values of a, b, and
c.
(Learner raised their hand)
 3x - 2x² = 7
 5x - 2x² = 6 .
 (x + 6) (x – 8) = 0

D. Lesson Proper

1. Presentation

Let us proceed to our topic. Our

next topic is about solving
quadratic equation by using
extracting the square roots

2. Discussion

In quadratic equation ax 2 +bx +c=0 ,

the values of x that will satisfy the
quadratic equation are called roots
or solution of the quadratic
equation.

If b = 0, then the quadratic equation

is in the form ax 2 +c=0.
If a = 1 and b = 0, then the
quadratic equation is in form
2
x + c=0.

The method of solving the

quadratic equation x 2=k is called
extracting square roots.

Equation that can be written in the

form ax 2=cand x 2=c ,where c is any
nonnegative real number, can be
solved by extracting the square
root.

Quadratic equations that can be

written in the form x 2=k can be
solved by applying the following
properties:

 If k > 0, then x 2= k has two real

solution or roots: x = ± √ k
 If k = 0, then x 2 = k has one real
solution or root: x = 0.
 If k < 0, then x 2= k has no real
solution or roots.

To solve Extracting Square Roots we need

to follow the steps

Step 1: Express the quadratic equation in

standard form.

Step 2: Factor the quadratic expression.

Step 3: Apply the zero-product property

and set each variable factor equal to 0.
Step 4: Solve the resulting linear
equations.

3. Guide Practice

Solve for the roots of given

equations.

Okay another example

= divide both side of the

n=± √ 10
The roots of the equation are
√ 10∧− √10

If the equation is in form a (x−c)2 =d

where c and d are constant and d≥ 0,
we can also solve the quadratic
equation by extracting the square
root.

Example:
2
(x−5) −100=0
(x−5) =100 isolate the term
2

containing the (x−c)2

√ ( x−5) =± √ 100 apply the square

root property.
x−5=±10
x-5 = ± 10or x-5 = -10
x = 15 x=-5

For checking
For x = 15:
2
(x−5) −100=0
2
(15−5) −100=0
100−100=0
0=0
For x = -5:
2
(x−5) −100=0
(−5−5)2−100=0
100−100=0
0=0
