To

Dear Madam/Sir,

Sub : Application for the position of “Mridangam Teacher ”at

I would like to introduce myself as a professional performer and trainer of Mridangam since
the past three and half decades. I have composed and conducted various events in the field of
fusion music. I am very much interested in teaching mridangam and will be devoted to the
same at all times.

I have attained first class in the 3 years degree course of Mridangam Music from Tamilnadu
Govt. Music College (a pioneer institute crafted many legendary experts in Classical Music
and Dance in India)

I have started my career as Mridangam artist while training many in this field. I have
performed in various musical events hosted by many prominent musicians and organizations.
I have been participated as a judge in a variety of musical competitions especially in
Mridangam recitals in Colleges, TV Channels, Schools, Musical Sabhas, etc.

I have attached two sheets explaining the following :

a. Various conflicts in teaching of beginner lessons for Mridangam taught in many schools
b. The features of ‘Mridangam Learn Easy DVD’ – the present project being done by me
covering all the facts and essentials of this profession
Honors and Achievements

Government of India for my dedication and research in advanced mathematical korvai
principles.
 A book named “Korvais made easy” was published in 2004 covering all the advance
technique in rhythm especially Mridangam & Tabla and percussions, which is the
output of my devoted research for a decade. More than 2500 copies were sold around
the world valuing the innovative ideas mentioned the book.
 I have trained a range of students and organized debuts for them since the past 2
decades and I have executed various exclusive performances consecutively for a
period of 6 years in the name of 'Mridanga Thaniaavarthana Programme' in Chennai.
Many of my students have performed in the concert with their exceptional
performance recitals in the presence of legendary musicians, curios viewers, young
musicians, etc. Several News papers have printed the reviews appreciating this
programme.
 In the field of rhythm, I have made many research activities and formulated more than
thousands of revisions in “Kuraippu”, “Korvais”, “Aruthis” and “Mohara” etc. for the
use of musicians, students, freshers, learners, etc.

Looking forward for your valued response in this regard.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,
(M N Hariharan)
Beginner lessons for Mridangam taught in various schools have the following problems.
1 There is no standard format for learning the Mridangam lessons.
2 The carnatic percussion (mridangam) do not have a standard format like the standard
format (sa ri ga ma pa da ni) for carnatic music taught generally by all music teachers.
3 There is no relevancy in the lessons for beginners in various mridangam training places.
They teach the carnatic percussion (mridangam) in their known manner in the case the
student shifting the training places enabling the student to be unpleasant.
4 Each training place has different sets of basic lessons, and use different vocabulary for
carnatic percussion (mridangam)
5 The available books and DVDs in the market presently do not start from the level of basic
lessons and they would have prepared these in their own vocabulary format and are not
extensive. Hence the learners will not understand these basic lessons. So they are unable to
proceed to advanced lessons and there is no possibility for them to experience about layam
and about the fundamental techniques for carnatic percussion (mridangam). These DVD
products are not interactive.
6 Inspite of having a DVD as a tutor, a professional guidance will make a pleasure during the
practice and enables the learners to understand and reproduce the correct output. Hence a
teacher’s guidance is mandatory to become a professional mridangam artist.
FEATURES OF MRIDANGAM LEARN EASY DVD

learning by which the learner can gain proficient knowledge in a pleasant way. Since
this DVD is made out of latest technologies this is intractable and student can go
through from any lesson in spite of shifting to anywhere in the world.

 Provides audio visual interaction by allowing a student to control the speed of lessons

 Shows the number of times required to play a lesson

 Enable the parents to observe whether their learners match the DVD.

 Facilitates to measure the learners progress as they move to higher lessons.

 Our MLED enables the learners to have a ease position to experience that a teacher is
all along with the practice of learning with this DVD.
