Writing:

What do you hope to achieve out of this internship? How does this help you achieve your
career/personal goals? Anything else we need to know?

First, I am grateful for this opportunity.

This internship is an intangible asset that has a lot of value to offer. At a personal level, I
consider it more attractive than traditional paid experiences.

First reason:

for the next two years, As I highlighted in the introduction and background section, I will be
applying for jobs in financial institutions and I’m aware that interviews are considered as an
important part of the selection and hiring process. I will benefit from a variety of courses
including subjects like accounting, DCF, Valuation, LBO…
Consequently, I will acquire a great insight into everything related to auditing, corporate
finance and investment banking.

Second reason:

WSO is a company that has considerable recognition. It would be amazing to have this
financial research Internship on my resume. Not only it could diversify my portfolio, but it can
also express and underline an authentic interest in finance.

Third reason:

My internship as a real estate agent has taught me the importance of communication not only
in the marketplace but also in every angle of our life. Since then, I jumped into numerous
bestsellers such as “ Talk Like TED” or “How to Talk to Anyone”.

In this occasion, I aspire to refine what I started but also boost my writing skills. Additionally,
it offers me the opportunity to grasp how to hold the audience attention and how to attract
and engage viewers.

Fourth reason:

Amid the job hunt process, I will necessitate 3 vital ingredients:

My cv, my interview skills but most importantly my connections.

Fortunately, at the end of the internship, I will obtain “5 direct LinkedIn referrals”.
But most importantly, I will Get access to detailed advice from finance professionals and
eventually be in touch with a community of like-minded people.

N.B:
I’m aware of the multiple advantages that wall street oasis is offering but also aware of the fact
that work has to be done. And for all the reasons stated, I will be giving not less than my best
performance in any writing task.

Writing:

Here is a quick introduction first: I’m Civil Engineer who’s freshly graduated from Université
Saint Joseph de Beirut. I will be attending the MSc in Finance at Grenoble Ecole de
Management next year. This summer, I will be undergoing an auditing internship at ABC SAL.
Now let’s just go through my journey (experience and skills acquired) and why I decided to
switch my career into the finance world.

Fascinated by the construction sector, I completed during my second year at university an

internship at Yazbek Real estate. Since the first day at work, I got assigned to a particular
region, I started gathering information about residential buildings and most importantly I
sought to manage client’s needs such as the price, location, age and area of the asset.
Subsequently, all the data collected would be transferred to the marketing team that ensured
to advertise different properties for sale or rent using social media platforms. I learned how to
convince potential sellers to promote their lands and buildings with Yazbek Real Estate. At the
moment I knew that I would have a career in the construction universe. Its 2018 and Lebanon,
my country, was in deep financial trouble. Banks trapped the Lebanese people by promising
them a 17% interest income if they deposit their money. So most of the folks walked into this
trap. On 17th October 2019, banks not only decided to freeze savings accounts but also chose
to do so with checking accounts. We Never saw a single penny since then.

If I had enough financial education during this period, I would have advised my family and
friends to avoid this trap knowing that the GDP of Lebanon at the time did not exceed the 1%
growth. I realized that financial education was a must.

As a kick start, during the corona virus pandemic, I pursued some trading courses via Udemy
and gained an understanding about risk management and technical analysis. During this
period, I got connected with world news (the economist, yahoo finance…) and any sort of
announcements that could have moved the market directly or indirectly.

But to get into the job market, I figured out the importance of deeming a MSc in finance.

Grenoble Ecole de Management is a well-known business school, one of the best in France
and is triple accredited. GEM gives me the possibility to pursue a 2-year (rather than 1)
program, which conveys me the opportunity to do 2 internships rather than 1 hence enhancing
my experience and then employability. In my second year of the regular track, I can pursue my
studies in Paris where I will do my best to build a strong network and take part in every big
firm’s conferences. I wish to undergo the CFA exam and I know for a fact that GEM will help
me prepare for it.

Following my acceptance letter (may till now), I got deeply interested in fundamentals, so I
made my first move into accounting. I discovered how to Link the 3 financial Statements and
how changes in each item affect the balance sheet, the income statement, and the cash flow
statement. Example: Depreciation which is a non cash expense affects the income statement
because its tax deductible and do correspond to the current period. As I stated in the
beginning, my accounting internship will start in July. On the other hand, I completed 2 python
courses (coursera) and I’m willing to carry on with the whole specialization this summer to
assimilate SQL and Java script.

During my free time, I practice MMA (mixed martial arts) at Nohad Nofal Stadium. This sport
has helped me to enhance my self-discipline and confidence. I’m also a ski and football fan.

I built quantitative and analytical skills during my engineering journey but most importantly, I
developed the skill and intuition to find solutions to problems that seemed unfeasible at first.

TMT writing:

TMT is an industry group within a company. One of the main constituents of an IBD
(Investment Bank Division) is the technology, media, and telecom team. This team takes
responsibility for working with all companies that funnel under this sector on advisory,
mergers & acquisitions, and corporate finance. It is also important to note that the leading
TMT group is currently at Goldman Sachs.

With media and technology becoming an ever-increasing part of society, the TMT industry is
viewed as one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Furthermore, the post-pandemic
world is more dependent on TMT due to the shift to online learning techniques and the
proliferation of companies switching to a work-from-home program. TMT company products
and services are directly proportional to the increased presence of TMT industry groups in
investment banks divisions, where the TMT team's work becomes more challenging.
The TMT team of investment banking consultants and advisors assists all companies under
the TMT title, for all matters related to raising debt and equity, completing mergers and
acquisitions, as well as for all asset sales. As a result, their efficacy in managing and advising
these companies has contributed greatly to the industry’s ability to capitalize on the current
economic situation.

As well, it is important to note that the massive growth of the TMT industry has led to a
collection of giants within the market that make it significantly more difficult for newcomers
to enter. In order to strengthen their position against their more experienced competitors,
relatively small companies are more likely to merge. Moreover, for the same reason that
mergers occur, acquisitions are also becoming more common as the dominant players of the
industry seek to cement their positions as the best, so they acquire their competitors to
maintain market share. As previously mentioned, Goldman Sachs is currently the leader of the
TMT group. Consistency in quality of work makes GS TMT stand out from other industry
groups and attracts TMT companies. It is also natural for people to gravitate toward Goldman
Sachs in all aspects of business because Goldman Sachs is one of the most reputable
financial institutions in the world. This reputation is well maintained by GS TMT, as they back
up their status by providing excellence in their services.

Since every task we do in life has either been transformed by technology or is being
transformed by technology, it is certain that we have not yet seen the peak of the TMT
industry. Additionally, because of the globalization that the media has sparked, it is now
incredibly difficult for people to exist without the media. You may connect to the farthest
reaches of the planet through media, which is always innovating and being used to its fullest
potential. This indicates that TMT industry groups have a very bright future, and in my opinion,
there are absolutely no signals that these industry groups will enter the stage of diminishing
activity in the corporate life cycle.
