I. Classify each monosaccharide using both its functional group and number of carbon atoms.

II. Identify each of the following as the d or l enantiomer:

D-Enantiomer D-Enantiomer

L-Enantiomer D-Enantiomer
Draw the Fischer projection for the other enantiomer of a to d in problem II on a paper, take a
photo and attached them below
For each disaccharide, indicate whether the glycosidic linkage is α (1 4) or β (1 4), and explain
how can you tell:

Maltose a-d-glucose-(1 4)-a-d- glucose the glycosidic is formed between the carbon -1
of one monosaccharide and carbon -4 of the other monosaccharide. Form a glycosidic linkage
the term is known as a 1-4 glycosidic bond and when beta molecules are involved beta
glycosidic linked is formed.

Alpha-D glucopyranosyl-(1 2) beta fructofuranose - The OH group on C1 of a D- glucose

reacts with the OH of C2 of B-D-fructose - Aβ-1,2 glycosidic bond joins glucose and fructose
together
