U12 Academy Coach Coaching Competencies

• Knowledge and understanding of capabilities and limitations of 11/12 year old children
• Ability to speak the language of an 11/12 year old child and to connect with the child
• Ability to focus on development first and foremost rather than results.
• Knowledge and ability to identify correct technique in the execution of various soccer skills
• Ability to teach and demonstrate advanced technical skills and movements
• Ability to teach players in the development of basic positional awareness, basic combination play and basic
principles of attack and defense

COACHING TASKS

Training:

• Ensure that all players are exposed to realistic game situations to help them in their development and to prepare them for competition
• Teach and develop players by adhering to the Richmond United’s philosophy on soccer, philosophy on teaching soccer, philosophy on player
development as well as Richmond United’s style and principles of play
• Ensure that all training sessions follow the Academy Periodization Calendar and address Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psychosocial elements of
the game
• Ensure the high quality of the training environment by planning each training session in advance, by organizing the training space efficiently, by
clearly communicating the expectations to all the players and by holding the players accountable for their performance during practice
• Communicate positively and effectively with each individual player and the team as a whole
• Maintain a high level of discipline through personal example and ensure that all practices start on time
• Ensure that the principles of respect and fair play to each other and the coaching staff are followed at all practices
• Ensure that all Richmond United Academy players adhere to the Richmond United Academy values and shared beliefs and always serve as a role
model in that regard
COACHING TASKS

Match Day:

• Clearly communicate team and individual player objectives for the game before the start of the game
• Clearly communicate the starting formation and the game strategy to the players before the start of the game
• Clearly communicate each player’s responsibilities on attacking and defensive set pieces
• Ensure that all players understand the warm-up routine
• Ensure the high quality of the warm-up environment
• Provide feedback during the game, at half time and after the game as deemed necessary for each particular situation
• Manage player substitutions during the game
• Ensure that the players follow the Club’s Philosophy, Style and Principles of play regardless of the score of the game
• Maintain a positive and professional demeanor on the sidelines at all times regardless of the score of the game
• Ensure that the principles of respect and fair play are followed at all times prior, during and after the game
• Ensure that all Richmond United Academy players adhere to the Richmond United Academy values and shared beliefs and serve as role
model in that regard
COACHING TASKS

Off the Field:

• In coordination with the Club’s Academy Director, prepare the annual training plan for your Academy team
• In coordination with the Club’s Academy Director, continuously overview the objectives and content of the annual training plan during
Preparation, Competitive and Transition periods of the seasonal year and make adjustments as necessary.
• Prepare and plan each weekly cycle coordinating the appropriate workload and intensity with the necessary Team Tactical Principles to be
addressed during that week
• Prepare and plan each training session
• Maintain a training log of all training sessions for your Academy team
• Prepare and plan the game strategy and identify the game objectives for each game
• Clearly communicate with the Assistant coaches to ensure that they understand their roles and responsibilities during the planning period,
training sessions and on match days
• Maintain regular and timely communication with the parents

SPRING 2017 SEASONAL GOALS – COACH

1. Managing the team


Objective: Improve your ability to establish, implement and evaluate team Performance Standards and Team Goals.

• Prepare and lead a team meeting where team Performance Standards and Team Goals for the Spring 2017 season are established.
• Develop a clear plan on how the established Performance Standards and Team Goals will be incorporated by the team in all team functions and activities during the Spring
season.
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the team Performance Standards and Team Goals.

2. Coaching the game


Objective: Improve your ability to provide feedback to the players during the match and at half-time. Increase the frequency of the game video analysis sessions with the U14
Academy team.
• Focus on the type and quantity of feedback that you provide to individual players and the team during the match and at half-time – economy of language, be technical &
specific and do not focus on too many things, positive communication and body language.
• Increase the frequency of the game video analysis sessions with the U14 Academy team to 1 session every two weeks.

3. Managing the player


Objective: Assist individual players in designing their own Individual Development Plans
• Based on the comprehensive mid-year player evaluation review, assist each individual U14 Academy player in designing his own individual development plan
• Establish a clear deadline to complete the individual development plans and provide continuous monitoring and feedback as necessary
