ABSTRACT

Background: Post-stroke is a stage that will be followed if the patient has had a previous
stroke. Disability caused by stroke can be in the form of limb weakness and difficulty in
speaking.
One of the post-stroke treatments is medical rehabilitation (physiotherapy).
Treatment takes a long time, causing many changes in the lives of patients and their
families. Socio-economic factors are one of the triggers for non-compliance with
physiotherapy in post-stroke patients. This study aims to determine the relationship
between socioeconomic level and adherence to physiotherapy in post-stroke patients.

Methods: This research design is descriptive quantitative analysis. The sample using the
slovin calculation as many as 60 respondents was taken using purposive sampling
technique. The study was conducted on 19-28 August 2022. Socio-economic level data
were obtained from filling out questionnaires and data on adherence to physiotherapy were
obtained from medical record observations.

Results: The results showed that the upper economy was 35.0%, the middle economy
was 28.3% and the lower economy was 36.7%. Data on adherence to physiotherapy were
found to be compliant (36.7%), moderately compliant 31.7% and non-adherent 31.7%. The
Chi Square 3x3 test shows a significant p value of 0.079 > 0.05 which means that H0 is
accepted and H1 is rejected.

Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between socioeconomic level and

adherence to physiotherapy in post-stroke patients at KRMT Wongsonegoro Hospital,
Semarang.
