THINGS TO NOTE
We fantasize about the day we will crack XYZ examination, get a five-six-digit
salary, travel to this beautiful place, step into this new spacious house. The focus
is on the success, not the struggle. And it’s understandable — success is
glamorous, memorable, and marketable, while the struggle is drab, disagreeable,
and unattractive for the general public.
Yet, it’s making the effort, struggling, and sticking to your resolutions that shapes
you as a person. Success is a reward for having given it your best, but it’s not
always within your control whether and when you get to enjoy it. Whenever you
find yourself discouraged by your lack of success, remind yourself that the process
alone is your reward. It’s in your hands whether you allow yourself to see the
rewards the struggle generates or ignore them, mindlessly pursing the end result
as the sole indicator of success.
I failed numerous times in life. I could have despaired that I had lost so much time
and effort and money, but I hadn’t really failed. I had been true to my values of
pursuing the life I wanted. I kept going, despite the obstacles I constantly
encountered along the way.
Eventually my efforts paid off, but even if it had taken longer to get the results —
the struggle would still have been worth it for the immense changes I underwent
on the journey to pursue my dreams.

Solutions:

(1) Ratio of the present ages of Rakesh and Aakash = 7 : 10

Ratio of the ages of Rakesh and Aakash after 7 years = 7 : 9

Difference between their ages should be same.

Present ratio = 14 : 20

Ratio after 7 years = 21 : 27

7 units – 7 years

1 unit – 1 years

20 units – 20 years
Present age of Aakash = 20 years

(2) Let the total work be 120 units.

A’s one-day work = 6 units
B’s one-day work = 8 units

C’s one-day work = 3 units

Time taken to complete 80% of the work = 96/9 = 32/3 = 10(2/3) days
Time taken by B to complete the remaining work = 24/8 = 3 days

Total time = 10(2/3) + 3 = 13(2/3) days

(3) Ratio of profit = 2400*12 : 4000*12 : 8000*8 = 9 : 15 : 20

44 units – Rs 3388

15 units – Rs 1155

Profit earned by Sumit = Rs 1155
(4) Time taken by train to cross the length of bridge only = 18 seconds

Speed of train = 300/10 = 30 m/s

Required length of bridge = 30*18 = 540 metres

(5) Let initial quantity of milk and water = 13x and 10x
(13x + 14)/(10x + 10) = 4/3

x=2

Initial milk = 26 litres

Initial water = 20 litres

Final water = 30 litres

Required difference = 30 – 26 = 4 litres

(6) Ratio of Principal to Amount = 64 : 81

P/(P/4 + 50) = 64/17

P = 3200
(7) CP = Rs 2200
MP = Rs 2400

SP = Rs 1800

Loss % = 400/2200 * 100% = 18.18%

(8) Population of town in 2002 = 24000 *6/5 * 7/8 = 25200

Male in 2002 = 13400

Females in 2002 = 25200 – 13400 = 11800

(10) Let length of rectangle = 7x

Breadth of rectangle = 3x

Perimeter = 2(l+b) = 100

2(7x + 3x) = 100

10x = 50
x=5

Length = 35 m

Breadth = 15 m
Area = 35*15 = 525 m2

(11) Downstream speed = 126/9 = 14 km/hour

Upstream speed = 110/11 = 10 km/hour
Speed of boat in still water = 24/2 = 12 km/hour

Required distance = 12*7 = 84 km

(12) Required SP = 5440 * 5/4 *22/25*11/10 = Rs 6582.4

(13) Required probability = 4C2*6C1/10C3 = 3/10

(14) Expenditure in March = Rs 9600

Savings in March = Rs 14400

Savings in April = 116% of 14400 = Rs 16704

(15) Cancelled order = 27% of 4200 = 1134

PAGE 30

Non-cancelled orders = 4200 – 1134 = 3066
Required number of orders = 2/3 of 3066 = 2044

(16) Ratio of profit of Sudhir, Prakash and Gagan = (1200*12) : (1800*12) :

(2000*8) = 18 : 27 : 20

65 units – Rs 1300

2 units – Rs 40

Required difference = Rs 40
(17) Required number of ways = 5!* 3!/2! = 360
(18) Milk in A = 64 litres

Water in A = 56 litres

Milk in B = 44 litres
Water in B = 36 litres

Required ratio of milk and water = 108 : 92 = 27 : 23

(19) Let the total work be 300 units.

A’s one-day work = 15 units

B’s one-day work = 12 units

C’s one-day work = 10 units

Work done by all of them in 2 days = 37*2 = 74 units

Remaining work = 300 – 74 = 226 units

Time taken by A and C to complete the remaining work when they work
alternately = 18(1/15) days

Required number of days = 2 + 18(1/15) = 20(1/15) days

(20) Ratio of principal to amount = 16 : 25

PAGE 31
