Refer to merupakan kata lain yang digunakan untuk merujuk pada seseorang atau benda

hidup (Refer to Somebody/Living things) atau sesuatu (refer to something) yang sudah
disebutkan sebelumnya.

Contoh :

 When a friend of yours finds ways and means to help you whilst you know he or she
is struggling, that’s pure love right there.
Kata he or she pada bagian akhir kalimat merujuk pada a friend pada bagian awal kalimat.

 David and his brother love to play baseball. They play every Friday.
Kata They pada akhir kalimat merujuk pada David and his brother pada awal kalimat.

 Running across the field, Sarah stumbled and fell. She realized her shoe was untied
so she tied it carefully.
She refer to Sarah. (refer to somebody)
It refer to Shoe. (refer to something)
kata yang digunakan untuk merujuk pada seseorang atau sesuatu harus berada pada posisi
setelah yang dirujuk, dengan kata lain kata yang dirujuk harus mendahului kata yang
merujuk, atau disebut antecedent.
