ROI-S04605 FUNCTIONAL OPERATION
2. FUNCTIONAL OPERATION
This chapter describes the functional operation of the ODU which
comprises of transmitter section, receiver section, and alarm and control
section. A functional block diagram is shown in Fig. 2-1.
The 850 MHz IF signal which comprises an EOW signal, monitor (MON)
signal, alarm and control signals and DC component from the IDU is
separated through the MPX circuit. The EOW signal is processed at the
CPU and fed to the RX LEV MON jack. The DC component is applied to
the PS module to produce regulated DC voltages which are used in the
ODU. The 850 MHz IF signal enters the mixer (MIX) through the AGC
AMP which compensate for any input IF signal level variations.
The MIX mixes the incoming 850 MHz IF signal with a [ ] GHz band local
signal generated by the synthesized RF local oscillator to produce the
specified transmit RF signal.
The ATPC range can be set within 30 dB, from −30 (MIN) to 0 dB (MAX),
and the RX threshold level can be selected from −80 to −30 dBm.
2-1
FUNCTIONAL OPERATION ROI-S04605
In DOWN mode:operates when the RX received level has risen more than
RX threshold with hysteresis level. (selected MIN is
limited DOWN level.)
For example, when the MAX is set to 0 dB, MIN is set to −10 dB in the
ATPC TX power range, and the RX threshold is set to −60 dBm. In this
case, if RX received level has fallen lower than −60 dBm, the TX output
rises in 1 dB step in UP mode of the ATPC control by comparing the RX
received level with the RX threshold level in 1 dB step. Then, the RX
received level has risen within −60 to −55 dBm, the TX power is
maintained in the HOLD mode.
RX Threshold Level
Time −60 dBm (−80 to −30 dBm settable)
The ATPC operates under the ODU alarm conditions are described as
follows:
When the ATPC MAX PWR control is continuously activated more than
90 sec., the MAX PWR ALM is generated under the frame synchronized
conditions. But, it does not counting during the FSYNC ALM condition.
The MAX PWR ALM is released when the ATPC becomes DOWN mode,
manual switchover control is performed for standby channel in HS system,
or control setting of CW, MUTE, ATPC manual ctrl, FE/NE loop back or
TX SW ctrl in HS system is performed in MAINT mode, or changing the
setting of MTPC, TX/RX frequency, BIT rate.

ROI-S04605 FUNCTIONAL OPERATION
An RF signal received from the antenna are filtered by the BPF and enters
the first MIX. The first MIX mixes the applied RF signal with an local
signal which is generated by a synthesized RF local oscillator to produce a
first IF signal. Then, the IF signal is fed to the second MIX through the
BPF which eliminates undesired components. The second MIX mixes the
1st IF signal with a local signal generated by a synthesized IF local
oscillator to produce a 70 MHz IF signal.
The MPX circuit combines alarm, monitoring and response signals which
are processed at the CPU in the ODU and the EOW signal with the IF
signal. These signals are fed to the IDU from the MPX circuit.

The X0818A EOW/RX LEV Monitor (optional) is used for operation and
maintenance as shown in Fig. 3-3. The operation range of the OW/RX
LEV Monitor is 0 °C to +45 °C and its functions are described as follows:
METER:
Indicates a DC voltage proportional to the receiving RF level.
OW indicator:
Lights when OW ON-OFF switch is set to ON. If the OW indicator is
not lit even after setting the OW switch to ON, replace the battery
(6F22(UB)/9V).
3-3
OPERATION ROI-S04605
OW ON-OFF switch:
Enables transmission of OW signal between IDU and ODU. The OW
switch should be set to ON position to enable OW communication.
VOL control:
Enables to adjust receive OW voice level.
RX LEV/OW IN jack:
Provide a DC voltage for RX LEV monitoring and OW signal from /
to the ODU.
HEADSET jack:
Permits communication between IDU and ODU when orderwire
headset is connected.

This process is most important for the following ODUs that may
be emitted TX power if you set the channel number to "0ch"
which is not defined by the Radio Frequency Assignment.
