Prepared by: Imee B. Tabangcura

Student-teacher
Submitted to: Dr. Leo L. Codilla Jr.
Supervising Instructor
I. Objectives
At the end of a 30-minute-discussion, the pupils are expected to:
a. compare the planets of the Solar System (MELC);
b. share importance of the Earth to humans; and
c. label the planets in the Solar System
II.Subject Matter
Topic: Planets in the Solar System
References: Science for Elementary grades book
Materials Used: Laptop, PPT, Printed pictures
III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity
A.Preparatory Activities
1.Drill
(Teacher will sing the song ‘’Oh , it’s
Science Time After All!)

Good day young astronomers!

Welcome to our Science class! By the
way, I am teacher Imee.
Before we begin, I want you to sing
along with me the song that I sang
earlier .

(Pupils are singing)

2.Review
Who can still remember the lesson
that we have discussed yesterday?
Yes,______?

Great! So what is rotation? Yes, ___?

Yesterday, we discussed about
Rotation and Revolution.
Is the answer of Mikee , correct Rotation refers to the spinning of the
Roldan? object on its own object.
Yes, it is correct teacher.
What about Revolution? Yes, ____?
And what have you learned from it? Revolution is the orbital motion
around another object like the sun.
That’s awesome!
B. Developmental Activities
1.Motivation
Since I know that you are all excited to
play a game. We will have one. Our
game is called the ‘’Singing Bee’’. What
will happen is that, I will be playing the
song ‘’Planets’’ and display its lyrics for
the first round. For the second round,
some of the lyrics of the song will be
omitted. If you see your name on the
screen, that means that you are going
to sing the missing lyric of the song.
You can ask help if you don’t know the
answer.

2. Presentation of the Lesson

Awesome class! I can definitely say
that you have good memory skills.
Based on the song class, I feel like it’s (Students are participating)
way easier for you to guess what will
be our topic for today. Yes, ____?

Very good guess! Thank you for that.

Now, where do you think does planets
belong to? To what system? Yes,
_____?

I guess our topic for today is all about

Now, what exactly will be the lesson planets.
that we are about to have today. If you
combine those two ideas. Yes, _____?

Excellent guess!
Planets are part of the Solar System
teacher.
3.Setting of Standards
Before we proceed, let us first have
our classroom rules so that our class
will be smooth-sailing. I guess our topic is about Planets in the
What will you do to your microphones Solar System teacher.
if the teacher is discussing the lesson
or someone is answering a question?
Yes, ____?

Rule No. 1 is simply Mute microphone

unless needed.
Next, what will you do so that the
teacher can see you if you are in
attendance and paying attention?
So, Rule No.2 states that you have to
Turn on your cameras.
What about if you have a question
We are going to mute our microphone
what will you do?
if the teacher is discussing or
somebody is answering.
So, Rule No. 3 dictates that you have
to raise your hand once you have some
questions to be clarified.
Do you all agree with the three rules
class?
Any objection?
All right, from time to time I will be
posting these three icons, if I believe
someone or more than one is/are not
following the rules. We should turn on our cameras.

These are the following icons:

Rule No. 1

We have to raise the hand in the icons

provided.
Yes, we do, teacher.
Rule No. 2
No, we don’t teacher.
Rule No. 3

4.Discussion
(The teacher will present to the class
an illustration of the Solar System).

Try to look at the illustration class, this

is the planets in the Solar System. And
the biggest circle that you are seeing
colored with yellow and orange is what
we call the sun. All planets revolve
around the sun because the sun has its
gravitational force that keeps the
planets in their orbits.

Based on the illustration class, try to

compare one planet to another, what
have you observed? Yes, ____?
Good observation! Now, what about
its sizes or its distance from the sun?
What have you observed? Yes, _____?

Very good! How about its design are

they the same?

Excellent observation!
Going back to the illustration class, the
planets are classified into two groups. The planets have different colors
One is the Terrestrial Planets and the teacher.
other is the Jovian Planets.

The Terrestrial Planets are sometimes

called the inner planets. They are the I have observed teacher that the
planets closer to the sun. Namely; planets have different distance from
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. the sun and in terms of sizes they are
also different.
These are its characteristics:
1.Made of rocky material
I have observed teacher that there are
2.Surfaces are solid planets that have rings and there are
3.Don’t have rings planets that don’t have.

4. Few moons or even none

5. Relatively small
On the other hand, Jovian planets are
sometimes called the outer planets.
They are the planets away from the
sun. The Gas giants are the Jupiter,
and Saturn while the ice giants are the
Uranus and Neptune.
These are its characteristics:
1.Multiple Moons
2.No solid surface
3.Support ring systems
4.Immense in size
Gas giants- Helium and hydrogen
Ice giants- rock, ice, mixture of water,
methane and ammonia.
5.Generalization
What again are the two types of
planets? Yes, ______?

Cite the Terrestrial Planets and the

Jovian Planets. Yes, ____?

Since Earth is one of the planets in the

Solar System, how important it is to
you?
Awesome!

6.Application
This time, we will have another
exciting activity. You will label the
The two types of planets are the
planets with its corresponding name.
Terrestrial and the Jovian Planets.

The terrestrial planets are Mercury,

Venus, Earth and Mars. While the
Jovian Planets are the Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus and Neptune.

Earth is important for me because it is

where we live and it is the only planet
that is vital to life.

IV. Assessment
Now, get your activity notebook and answer the following questions.

a. Jovian Planets
b. Terrestrial Planets
c. Gas Giants
d. Ice Giants
2. The other term for inner planets is?
a. Terrestrial Planets
b. Jovian Planets
c. Ice Giants
d. Gas Giants
3. Describe Gas giants which are the Jupiter and Saturn.

b. Gas Giants are highly made of Oxygen and Ice.
c. Gas Giants are made of Hydrogen and Helium.
d. Gas Giants are made of Rock and Ice.
4. Differentiate Terrestrial planets from Jovian Planets.
a. Terrestrial planets are made of ice while Jovian planets aren’t.
b. Jovian planets are made of gas while the Terrestrials are made of ice.
c. Terrestrial planets have no rings while the Jovian planets have.
d. Jovian Planets have no rings while the Terrestrial Planets have.
5. Which is the correct explanation of why planets revolve around the sun?
a. Planets revolve around the sun to complete its task in the Solar System.
b. Planets revolve around the sun to because it is its nature to do it.
c. Planets revolve around the sun because it has its orbit.
d. Planets revolve around sun because of the sun’s gravitational force.
V. Assignment `
Using a short coupon bond, draw the solar system and label it with its name. Your
output will be checked based on the following rubrics:
