02 QUIZ 1

1.Choose and define ONLY one (1)from the three (3) given terms, and state how it described
Jose Rizal's life and works:
a.Nationalism
b.Patriotism
c.Volunteerism

-Patriotism shows feeling of love and positive behavior and embodies sacrifice for the country
and for national hometown to protect its honor. Rizal was patriotic because he did everything to
liberate our country from the evils of the Spaniards in the past. He did this by writing Noli Me
Tangere and El Filibusterimo to make Filipinos aware of the evil deeds of the Spaniards. Also,
Rizal was brave, smart, and loving person. Rizal showed his love for our country because he
gave his life for the sake of our country, and he was not afraid to face death. This is because for
him and for all Filipinos, even if he disappears, his words and ideas will continue to live on in the
hearts and minds of Filipinos.

2.Choosing ONLY one (1)out of the four (4) periods below to define popular nationalism, how
will you demonstrate it ...

b.During the American Regime?
c.During the Japanese Period?

a. During the Spanish Occupation?

-In the Philippines, Spain created a centralized colonial administration comprised of a national
government and local governments that managed provinces, cities, towns and municipalities.
The origins of the political community of Spaniards as shared destiny over other groups have
been traced back to the Cortes of Cádiz. Looking back at Spanish history, after 1812, Spanish
liberalism tended to take the national consciousness and the Spanish country for granted.
The exchange of assaults with the various regional nationalisms is a distinct manifestation of
Spanish nationalism in current Spanish politics. The Spanish nationalist rhetoric has frequently
self-branded as constitutional patriotism, after first appearing in a somewhat broad and reactive
form following the fall of Francoism.
Its purported non-existence, like in the case of other State nationalisms, has been a
commonplace advocated by important people in the public arena as well as the country's mass-
media.
La Patria Adorada - The rise of nationalism in the Philippines following the Revolution. Rizal's
literary works, such as Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, instill a nationalistic spirit in
Filipinos.
The GomBurZa event was one of the primary reasons why he is fighting to abolish Spanish rule,
owing to the harsh treatment of the Spanish people, particularly the Spanish priests Prayle.
Rizal wants Filipinos to have the same rights as Spaniards.
As a response, Rizal launched a nonviolent revolution known as the Assimilationist or
Propaganda campaign. Which eventually sparked numerous uprisings to gain our country's
freedom.

3.In no more than five (5) sentences, justify whether the pre-colonial Philippines was a nation or
otherwise.

-During Philippine pre-colonial, before the coming of the three foreign races, our ancestors
pretty much living in a veritable paradise but nowadays, the Philippines has changed a lot unlike
before. I can still say that every Filipino was more united before. One of the reasons why the
Philippines have been in a chaotic situation because we are invaded by Spain, American and
Japan. But because of pre- colonial reminds us how good our life before. Here are some
reasons how free we are during Philippine pre-colonial. The women enjoyed equal status with
men, society was more tolerant, the people enjoyed a higher form of government, we were self-
sufficient, and we had smoother foreign relations. I hope Philippines will experience the good life
again. But I still believe that every Filipino will still have unity and love for our country.
