Report accompanying the estimate for “Desilting of Apparao Channel
from Km 2.00 to 3.60 and GWD Canal from KM 5.00 to KM 8.00 in City
limits of Nidadavolu in East Godavari District.”

Estimate Amount Rs. 2,01,06,000/-

Nidadavolu town has population of 43,809 (2011 census) is blessed with the
Godavari Western Delta canal flowing by and serving an ayacut of 5.29 Lakhs Acres in
East Godavari, West Godavari, and Eluru Districts.

The following irrigation canals are flowing through the Nidadavolu city along with
their lengths in the city limits proposed for beautifications are as follows.

1. Apparao Channel in Nidadavolu – 1.60 KMs

2. GWD Canal in Nidadavolu – 3.00 KMs

These are a lifeline, a source of drinking water and irrigation needs for hundreds
of villages in the Godavari Western Delta. Originating from Godavari River in
Vijeswaram, the canals impact the lives of people of the city in various ways. For
administrators, canals and canal banks pose many challenges.

There are encroachments in the Nidadavolu city limits on both left and right
banks Canals viz., houses, temples, stalls, workshops, etc.

Hence there is a need to restore the canals for irrigation and navigation interest
of conservation, improving quality of life leading to wider social economic and
environmental regeneration in the areas neighbourhood of canals.

The aim for beautification of canals is to reclaim the canal banks as public asset,
improve its spatial structure based on current pattern of adjacent land use, habitat and
structural conditions for restoring the city’s relationship with canals.

The main objective for beautification of canals is to determine the relevance of

the planning, design and bringing better understanding of the development on the canal
front area. The specific objectives are;
  To prevent the pollution of canals and maintain the fine water quality.
 To strengthen the canals and canal bunds.
 To identify the potentials and physical problems associated with preserving and
restoring the canals as public spaces, where possible.
 To develop the recreational navigation in these canals, where possible.
 To develop the sustainable canal tops by solar panels on canal tops implication.
 To develop the available space along the canals as open public spaces
incorporating the street scape, urban design and landscape techniques.

In this connection, an estimate has been prepared for “Desilting of Apparao

Channel from Km 2.00 to 3.60 and GWD Canal from KM 5.00 to KM 8.00 in City limits
of Nidadavolu in East Godavari District.” in Machilipatnam Town with latest SoR 2022-
23 for an amount of Rs.2,01,06,000/- with the following provisions.

1. Providing Homogeneous Embankment for every 1.5 KM (Cross Bund)

2. Excavation in All kinds of soils in Canal bed
