CHANGE™ GASKET
As the inventor of the spiral wound gasket, Flexitallic is pleased to offer another industry first: the Change™ gasket.
Change™ was initially developed to overcome key challenges of heat exchangers and in direct response to current
industry requirements, including:
Production facilities pushing runtimes longer at higher pressures and temperatures requiring gaskets to last
longer, seal tighter, and remain cost effective;
Strict low emissions compliance setting goals of 100% leak free operations with a focus of bolted joints as a
key area for improvement; and,
Fire safety (API 6FB Fire Test) certification.
Through extensive testing and field service, Change™ has proven to deliver a more dynamic seal, superior
compression and recovery, and incredible resilience. Change™ has out-performed all alternative gaskets. Including
our own.
UNIQUE MANUFACTURING
The Change™ gasket design combines aspects of both a traditional spiral wound and a kammprofile, improving upon
both. Change™ uses a unique winding wire approximately five times (5x) thicker than traditional spiral wound wire.
The new heavy gauge metal wire is formed with a functional edge that simulates the serration profile of a grooved
metal gasket. The heavy wire is wound like a spiral wound, incorporating filler material, and is held together via an
optimized laser welding process. Then it is finished with layers of facing similar to a kammprofile.

The Test
The test includes 24 thermal cycles to compare performances of commonly
used semi-metallic gaskets. All gaskets used are 4” Class 300 raised face
gaskets with B16 studs. Once the assembly is set up it is then:
Each thermal cycle takes approximately 24 hours to complete and is run without stopping until completion of the
cycles. Maximum allowable pressure drop after 24 cycles is 1 bar (14.5 psi)
Results
The Change™ gasket lost only 0.1 bar (1.5 psi) total. It outperformed every other gasket tested by at least 9 cycles.
And there’s no telling how long it would have kept going if we hadn’t stopped the test.
