1. Purpose
The objective of this procedure is to list out the study scholarship and leave procedure &
guidelines for officers.
2. Scope
This procedure applies to all officers employed onboard vessels managed by Maersk
Tankers (Excluding Brostrom Singapore).
3. Description
1. Applicants must complete 1 year service with the Company at the time of review.
2. Application for Study leave/ Scholarship will be reviewed in April and October and the
relevant application form must be used. Application received without completing the
requisite form completely or filling the form incorrectly, shall be disregarded from being
reviewed.
The Applicant must also be eligible to attend the relevant Competency course and
associated examinations (including orals) at the time of enrolment.
5. Study Leave and Scholarship shall be valid only for the period that it is approved. If it
is not taken during the approved period, it will be automatically cancelled.
6. Scholarship if granted shall only be applicable to applicants applying for Junior Officer
license courses (OOW/EOW) or Senior Officer license courses (Chief Mate/2nd
Engineer) and not applicable to Master’s or Chief Engineer License courses.
7. Applicants are responsible for their own calculations and estimation of sea time.

8. Duration of approved study leave and Scholarship as specified in the application will
be considered as time with the Company but in no case will be entitled to a salary after
expiry of his paid leave (where ever applicable).Applicants with approved study leave but
unapproved study scholarship will not accrue service with the company after his/her paid
leave expires.
9. The applicant shall intimate the company about his contact details (address, telephone
no. and email) where he could be contacted during the study period.
10. Applicant must advise approximate date of return to service with new higher grade of
Certificate of Competency (with no limitations) in the study grant application form. Such a
date should not exceed 3 months from college end date or no more than 12 months from
college start date. Prior approval should be obtained should candidate not be able to
adhere to above time lines.
11. The candidate must ensure that he/she returns with the desired higher grade of
Certificate of Competency (with no limitations) on expiry of his/her approximate date of
return as mentioned above.
12. An officer is entitled to re-apply for study leave and scholarship, provided he applies
for a review 12 months after his last application and complies with the above mentioned
guidelines.
13. Subsequently, if it is found that any of the conditions in connection with the Study
Scholarship is not fulfilled, the Company reserves the right to withdraw the said
Scholarship.
14. The payment of approved Scholarship shall be paid out on returning to service with
higher grade certificate. Copy of which must be forwarded to the respective Crewing
operator and crewtrainingmtsin@maersk.com to enable payment of Scholarship.

15. This procedure is not applicable to officers whose education / examination is already
sponsored / covered by state support subsidies or similar means.
16. This procedure does not apply to officers under MOB and MOG employment. The
Study process for officers under MOB and MOG employment shall be governed by
existing procedure under their contract.
