Constitution Vocabulary Words
Legislative Branch: made up of the House and Senate, known collectively as the Congress.
Senate: the smaller upper assembly in the US Congress, most US states, France, and other countries.
Electoral College: a body of people representing the states of the US, who formally cast votes for the
election of the president and vice president.
Impeach:(especially in the US) charge (the holder of a public office) with misconduct.
Supreme Court: the highest court within the hierarchy of courts in most legal jurisdictions.
Judicial Review:
Bill of Rights: the first ten amendments to the US Constitution, ratified in 1791 and guaranteeing such
rights as the freedoms of speech, assembly, and worship.
Federalism: a system of government in which the same territory is controlled by two levels of
government
Ratify: a system of government in which the same territory is controlled by two levels of government
Articles of Confederation: the original constitution of the US, ratified in 1781, which was replaced by

Anti-Federalists: a person who opposed the adoption of the U.S. Constitution.
