1.0 PURPOSE
This Method Statement describes the procedure to Piping Support Fabrication works to
meet the specific requirement as per the project specifications in a controlled manner.
2.0 SCOPE
This Method Statement Covers Piping Support Fabrication works for building and other
miscellaneous works as detailed in the drawing.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
3.1.1 Construction manager shall be responsible for coordination and execution of all
Ceiling Installation works.
3.1.2 Provide plans and schedule for all activities included in this work.
3.2.1 Review all necessary drawings and ensure that the latest revision is being used.
3.2.2 To set out the works to the required lines and levels within the permitted deviation
stated in the specification and ensure that these are worked to.
3.2.3 Ensure that relevant quality control checks are duly completed where identified with
ITP.
3.2.4 Check that supervisor/foremen are issued with, and are working to the current
approved editions of drawings and schedules and the obsolete information is removed
from the place of work.
3.2.5 Ensure that all necessary records regarding verification of the completed work are
maintained and, where required, are agreed with the client.
3.3 Supervisor/Foreman
3.3.1 Site supervisor is responsible for the execution as per the method statement.
3.3.2 Ensure that the necessary labor and plant resources are available to carry out the
work in safe and efficient manner.
3.3.3 Periodically review progress and adjust resources accordingly to maintain the
schedule.
3.3.4 Ensure that all personnel involved with repair works are wearing the correct clothing
and are carrying out their duties in a correct and safe manner.
3.4.1 QA/QC Engineer shall be responsible for site inspection/test activities, co-ordination
with concerned authorities.
3.4.2 Maintain records of quality control checks and mark up arrangement drawings to
record the location.
3.4.3 Keep fully up to date the Construction Records Dossier for Access Floor Installation
work.
5.1.3 Pipe stanchions, pipe dummies and trunnions shall be made from the same type of
material as the connecting pipe. All other support material welder directly to the shall be of
the same type of material as the pipe itself.

5.2 5.2.1 Anchor A device which restrains the pipe from movement and rotation
in all directions. The member to which an anchor is fixed,
however, may be subjected to displacements and/or rotations,
e.g. connections to equipment.
5.2.2 Pipe Stanchion A tubular supporting element with base plate to the pipe. The
pipe stanchion will rest on the supporting structure and so
support the pipe. When considerable site adjusting is required,
the pipe stanchion may be two piece welded together after
adjustment.
5.2.3 Clamp A device bolted around a pipe or, for cold insulation, around
the insulation. Clamps form an integral part of hangers and
clamped cradles or pipe shoes.
5.2.4 Dummy Leg A dummy pipe welded to an elbow of the prefabricated pipe.
The pipe dummy will rest on the supporting structure and so
support the pipe at the change of direction. Permitted only
when stress analysis permits.
5.2.5 Guide A device controlling the direction of movement of piping /
supports.
5.2.6 Guided support A support allowed to move along a predetermined axis,
controlled by guides.
5.2.7 Hanger A support suspended from floors, beams etc
5.2.8 Pipe shoe A pipe support welded or clamped to a pipe and placed
between the pipe and supporting structure.
5.2.9 Pipe stop A device preventing the pipe from displacement in one
direction may be applied in combination with a guide in
another direction.
5.2.10 Rest support Location where a pipe is resting with or without the application
of a pipe shoe on the supporting structure.
5.2.11 Reinforcing pad A plate welded to the pipe in order to reinforce the pipe local
or saddle to branches and supports to prevent the pipe from being
damaged.
5.2.12 Shear lug A welded attachment to the pipe at one or both sides of a
clamped cradle or pipe shoe, preventing the pipe from
slipping through the pipe support.
5.2.13 Sway strut An adjustable device, usually applied for restraining
movement of piping in one direction while providing for
movement in another direction.
5.2.14 Spring hanger A suspended spring loaded support
5.2.15 Spring support A spring loaded assembly or device, supporting the pipe from
underneath.
5.2.16 Trunnion A tubular supporting device, branching-off horizontally from a
vertical line, and resting on, or suspended from, the
supporting structure.
5.2.17 U-bolt A light-duty fixture, U-shaped, with both ends threaded and
provided with nuts. these supports can be used for both semi-
fixed or guiding points.

5.3 PROCEDURE
5.4.1 Cutting
Support materials may be cut to shape and size by flame or thermal cutting. Stainless
steel materials shall be cut by mechanical means or plasma arc cutting. Spatter on support
material from cutting shall be removed by grinding or other suitable means.
Pipe support assemblies may be acceptable if items having greater strength are
substituted for those indicated on the Drawing(s)
5.4.2 Welding and welding Attachment:
All welding shall be in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specification.
Support materials welded directly to the pipe shall be of the same type of Material as the
pipe.
These support field fabrication and installation shall be inspected with ‘Daily Welding
Report’ in accordance with Attachment 1. Pipe stanchions or dummy legs that are welded
to pipe or elbows; a distance between the welds of the support and the welds of fitting or
pipe should be at least 4 times of pipe wall thickness.
Welding must be carried out by Qualified Welder in accordance with approved Welding
Procedure Specification.
Daily Welding Report shall be signed off by Construction contractor QA/QC inspector after
visual inspection.
Field welding to pipes for the purpose of pipe support shall be limited as far as practical.
Field welding for pipe support purposes shall not be performed on the following pipe
materials:
- materials requiring post weld heat treatment
- galvanized materials
- non-ferrous materials

For pipes requiring post weld heat treatment, attachments required for supporting
purposes shall be indicated on the piping isometric drawings, and welding shall be
performed in the workshop before post weld heat treatment.
All welds of support elements and of supports to piping shall be continuous.
The field fabricated and supplied supports from EPC contractor shall conform to the “Bill of
Material for Supports” drawings and standards and shall be able to withstand the Specified
loads.
Maintain segregation of fine grain piping material from normal carbon steel throughout the
handling field fabrication and installation activities.
5.4.3 Marking and Tagging
When Welding has been completed, dedicated person will tag on each support body with
metal stamped tags.
The characters on such tags shall be a minimum of 3/16 inch and tags shall be securely
attached to the assembly.
5.4.4 Construction contractor Material tracking team shall mark identification on each
support and stock by area and preserve and maintain support properly until issue to field
erection.
5.4.5 NDE Request
The management and request of NDE shall be in accordance with (NDE Control-PT, MT).
5.4.6 Carry out PWHT
When applicable, PWHT shall be conducted in accordance with WPS
6.1 The Site Engineer will be overall in charge of the concreting operation.
