Capstone Draft Proposal Worksheet

Name: Willy Park

Website: www.willypark.weebly.com
Topic: Building formula calculator
Strand: Project
Inquiry Question: While developing a program, how can I make the program to be handier and
how can I use these feature on TI84 calculator I am using right now?

1) Capstone Project Summary:

In the box below, please type out a 200 – 300-word explanation of what you're planning to do with
your Capstone project. Be specific as possible, detailing what you hope to accomplish.
In my capstone project, I want to create a formula calculator using python programming language.
Formula calculator I will be making is something that gives some practice questions with uses of formula
on IB formula booklet. For example, energy production of windmill with some practice questions that I can
use to prepare for my test. Also, it will let me choose a variable to calculate which will require some
flexible knowledge to build this calculator. I have upcoming IB exam in May which I want to be prepared
and be able to be successful to go into university that I want to go into. One of the big reasons I am
making this calculator is because by creating it by using python language, I can connect it to my calculator
and use it on my calculator. I can’t use this on IB exam, since I must reset my calculator, this might be
useful in university or some math contest such as Euclid. So that I want to use this chance to make my own
calculator to improve my coding skill, but also to help my future somehow. Usually, I have no time work on
non-school works, but since I can build calculator as my school project, I can focus on making it compared
to when I work at my free time.

2) Core Competencies:
In the boxes below, explain how your project will demonstrates your abilities and skills from each
section of the Core Competencies. (You must choose at least two points from each skill area of the
core competencies.)

Core Competency: How you demonstrate it in your Capstone Project:

Personal Awareness & Well-Being: I am trying to learn new things by designing this new project
Responsibility Self-Regulation: I already set a goal to motivate myself to work towards
it.
Social Responsibility Building relationships: I can contact people who can help me in this
capstone project.
Valuing diversity: I have manners to respect others and defend human
rights.
Critical Thinking Analyze and Critique: I can analyze my own project that I can make
judgements change the goal if needed.
Question and Investigate: I can also ask good questions to myself and
with the conclusion I get, I can develop it in my project.
Creative Thinking Generating ideas: I can gather new information from others to imply to
my own project.
Developing Ideas: I can develop ideas from failure, mistake, and
misunderstood things.
Communication Collaborate to plan, carry out, and review: I can ask other people to
review my project and use their comments to plan out to make better
project
Connect and engage with others: I can take feedback from other people
to use it as my own improvement.
Personal & Cultural Identity Personal value and choices: I understand what important things I can
learn from this project and use them for my career in future.
Personal strengths and abilities: I know what makes me unique as a
person and I understand those things that I can improve on them.

3) Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question.

Explain WHY you are choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry
connect to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

My Capstone project is related to computer programming, but also it relates to IB courses I am taking since I
am making formula calculator. While building the calculator, I can become better programmer, but by
investigating in topics such math, and physics to understand those formula can help me to improve my
grade in school and ultimately help me to go into university.

4 ) Background: What background knowledge / connections / prior learning do you have that can help
you to be successful with your project?

I have some prior learning in math, physics, and computer programming that I believe I can work on this
project by myself, but although I am stuck, I have my dad, and programmer friends who can help me to
be successful.

5) Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does
this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals? What are you hoping to gain from
completing this project (other than graduating or passing CLC 12)?

I am trying to do double major in university which are statistics and computer programming. This
project will probably help me to achieve my goal by giving me opportunities to use this project as an
experience and something that could be presented to universities.

6) Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to present your
project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You may use a
combination of mediums.

o Electronic portfolio: Power Point, Canva or Prezi

o Physical portfolio
o Website
o i-movie presentation
o YouTube channel
o Other
Electronic portfolio, with some short YouTube video, because I want to show how my code works and by
putting short videos on PowerPoint, it will make good presentation with clear explanation.
